When Sophie gets offered the job of a lifetime as the exclusive massage therapist for Josh “The Jackhammer” North’s team, it’s difficult to say no to the outrageous salary—and the bet—that Josh proposes. But for Sophie it’s a risk that could cost a lot more than just her heart – if she’s found, it could cost her her life.

Should she dare?

Josh wants to break through Sophie’s fortified walls, but is unwilling to put the jackhammer to his own and reveal his secrets and the side of him few have ever known or seen. To do that, he’ll have to confront the darkness of his past.

Will he dare?

Liam Knight, a sexy panty-melting, hard-bodied streetfighter and renowned tattoo artist, is rising up the ranks of the UFC Middleweight Division, but he’s about to get knocked out by his past.

Quinn Kelley is a semester away from becoming a college graduate when her mother’s death sends her spiraling, forcing her to go back to her hometown and a past she can’t outrun.

Nearly a decade ago, Liam and Quinn fell in love while surviving on the city streets together, but they were torn apart by one irreversible night. Now each has moved forward without the other, but like a tattoo on the heart, absolute love creates a lasting burn.

Quinn has kept a tight rein on her emotions, but with the passing of her mother, the foundation she’s built begins to crack. Will seeing Liam again crumble her fortress to the ground, uncovering the flame that still burns? Or will it extinguish the fire forever?

Liam’s tough exterior and resentful demeanor hides more than a wounded heart. He’s tormented by guilt over what happened to Quinn—and the secret he kept, even from her. But revealing his secrets would require unearthing the all-consuming monster he keeps caged in the darkest part of his soul, the one that threatens to devour him.

When they’re given a second chance, will they let go of their fear and pride and let the flame between them become one?

Or will the heat burn them both?

Alpha-male, dirty-talking, MMA Light-Heavyweight Champion Josh North has only three days until the wedding to prove to single mother and greatest-love-of-his-life Sophie Garner that he is the only man she’ll ever need!

As the wedding day approaches and Sophie begins to get cold feet, Josh comes up with a romantic scheme to prove his love and devotion–and employs all his brothers as Cupid’s messengers!

See Josh North, the North men and the Brothers of Ink and Steel like you never have before in this sweet, sexy and wildly romantic wedding novella!

Sophie Garner answered yes in front of the entire world when Josh popped the question and the diamond ring dangled from his title belt, but is she really ready to take the plunge?

She’s been a single mother for almost three years, and she’s set in her ways, not used to sharing her life with anyone but her daughter, Charlie. Plus, she doesn’t know that she can ever escape the shadow of a past that still haunts her.

Sophie and Charlie are everything Josh wants in the world – but the heartthrob bachelor is learning that commitment and fatherhood are both tougher than training for the title fight! And even though he’d give his life for either of his girls, he’s not so sure he’s got what it takes to be a husband and daddy.

Will Josh win the roughest fight of his life, or will he go down for the count?

Echo

My father was a proud example of what a King of Chaos should be: loyal, strong, and ready to take care of business, or defend his own. At one time, he was the apple of my damn eye. I didn’t realize till much later in life how f***ed up his views were.
We lost my grandfather in his prime to a f***ing robbery of all things. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and caught a bullet to the brain. They found the guy; a black man strung out on heroin. I think that’s where his bullshit beliefs about keeping races separate, and blacks being inferior started.
Growing up, I thought he wanted to protect us from people who meant us harm. It was a familiar concept I could accept because it was an extension of us versus them. Civilians and the club. Then I saw how he treated Dixie Rose. Suddenly, I understood what he felt and taught was corrupt and wrong. A hate that knew no bounds. It wasn’t about him protecting those he loved from the outside world, or the people who’d hurt Grandpa. It was an uncontrollable hate for anyone with the wrong color of skin. It screwed with me, divided my loyalties. I’d always been drawn to Dixie Rose. She was a brilliant ray of sunshine, always laughing and smiling. I never understood why my father acted so gruff with her. I made a career of hiding our relationship. Maybe that’s why I thought I could have my cake and eat it too.
I was dead fucking wrong.
Parked in my car like a little b***h afraid to face the consequences of his actions, I try to form a plan. We’re welcoming Hoss back into the fold officially. It’s the perfect diversion to get her alone. With all the carrying on, I can get her back to my dorm. She’s angry and obstinate, the only way I can get her to sit still long enough to speak with me is by force. I can’t blame her really. I f***ed us royally. I’d make good on it if she would let me.
I need to prove to her I’ve changed.
I wasn’t the man she needed me to be before. That’s changed. Ready to get things started, I step from the car and amble inside.
I walk through the club, shaking off the questing hands of the blonde I’d been nailing on a regular basis. The years apart have only reinforced that. I spot her in the corner sipping on a bottle of beer as she watches Slick line up a shot.
Her hair is pulled up on top of her head revealing her slender neck. The swell of her full breasts in the form fitting black tank top with the KOC emblem and the tight black pants have my d**k twitching. She looks like royalty. Her face isn’t caked with makeup … there’s a delicate beauty to her. With her full lips painted red, and the fringe of eyelashes accentuating those brown orbs that never miss a thing, she is a goddess to me.
She’s a part of it, but separate. I want to change that. She deserves to be immersed in the culture she was born to. I walk up on her blindside and lean against the wall beside her.
“Here I thought you weren’t going to show,” she drawls.
“Good to know you were looking for me,” I say.
She scowls. “Don’t flatter yourself. I like to know where my enemies are.”
“I’m many things, but your enemy has never been one of them.”
“I don’t know, people who hurt me aren’t my friends.”
Her words hit their target, but I refuse to let it show. “Not what you said the last time we had a run in.”
“So, you make my p***y wet. You taught me all I know; it’s a matter of muscle memory.”
I lean down and whisper in her ear, “F***ing bullshit.”
“I’m sorry, did I hurt your feelings?” she retorts.
“Takes more than that. I want to bring this shit out in the open.”
“What?” She blinks owlishly. “No, you can’t do that. I won’t let you do that.”
“You think you control me?”
“F**k this.” I lift her up and toss her over my shoulder.

Shyla Colt grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, but has lived a variety of different places thanks to her wanderlust, interesting careers, and marriage to a United States Marine. She’s always loved books and wrote her very first novel at the age of fifteen. She keeps a copy of her first submission letter on her desk for inspiration. After a lifetime of traveling, she settled down and knew her time had come to write. Diving into her new career like she does everything else, with enthusiasm, research and a lot of prayers, she had her first book published in June of 2011. As a full-time writer, stay at home mother, and wife, there’s never a dull moment in her household. She weaves her tales in spare moments and the evenings with a cup of coffee or tea at her side and the characters in her head for company. A self-professed rebel with a pen. Her goal is to diversify romance as she continues to genre hop, and offer up strong female characters.

Lovers Gonna Love…

Family isn’t always defined by blood.

Sometimes family is born of love…

Loyalty…

And choice.

Sometimes the bond that comes from someone having your back through the shittiest of times is stronger than anything you get from genetics.

And sometimes you find that piece of your soul you didn’t even know was missing.

I’m a lucky guy like that.

I found a love that will never fade. I found a group of people who aren’t just my friends.

They’ve become my family.

There’s only one place to go from here.

I’m gonna bind myself to Rimmel in every possible way.

I’m gonna bring our family even closer together.

The past has taught me it won’t be easy.

Especially when faced with repercussions from a night that ended in death.

But that’s okay.

Family doesn’t quit each other.

Love like ours never dies.

Happily ever after isn’t just for storybooks.

Braeden and Ivy

“Blondie,” I said, a little firmer this time and peeled her off my chest. “What’s the matter with you?”

Her lower lip stuck out in a pout and then wobbled.

It wrecked me.

The vulnerability she was projecting fucking took me down.

She reached for me again and I let her in, drawing her close and allowing her to burrow in as close to me as she could.

I rocked us both back and forth, a slight movement, but a comforting one. Clearly she needed comfort. Maybe that’s the reason Rim had been driving.

“Did something happen today?” I asked, hoarse.

Whose ass do I need to beat? The possessive bastard in me demanded.

“Promise me something,” she said suddenly, pulling back and blinking the snow from her face.

“Anything.”

Her eyes cleared and she shook her head. “No. No promises. Just tell me I’ll never lose you.”

Relief filled my limbs and made them heavy. I wanted to laugh.

I must have smiled because she scowled. “Why is that funny?”

“It’s not funny. It’s just the easiest promise I will ever make.”

“It’s not easy. It won’t be.”

What the f**k was she talking about?

“Ivy.” A hard note creeped into my tone. “Listen to me and listen good.”

Her eyes bounced between mine, like she was searching for something… but I didn’t know what. I’d give it to her, f**k I’d give her anything if I only knew what it was she needed.

“You listening?” I demanded.

Really, I was stalling for time.

I had to pull out some words right now. We all know how very little I liked words.

She nodded.

“I don’t know what’s gotten into that beautiful head of yours today and honestly it doesn’t really matter. Not for this. I’m not going anywhere. Never. Hell, I should be the one asking you to make that promise.”

She snorted. Clearly she’d spent the afternoon with my sister.

“Its ridiculous, right?” I asked.

She nodded, but then I saw the doubt creep into her eyes.

I took her face in my hands, noting how cold her skin felt. “It’s just as easy for me to make that promise as it is for you. You have to trust me, baby. You have to trust that I mean it when I say I’m yours and it’s not going to change.”

Why, why was she suddenly being so… so… chick-like?

Hell, we made it through Missy, our mutual attempt to push each other away, rape, Zach… the list went on. Why was she suddenly needing to hear that I wasn’t going to leave her?

“I trust you,” there was no doubt in her voice. “More than anyone.”

It didn’t really matter. The reason. If she needed to hear it then I’d say it.

I tucked her into my side to shelter her from the cold and turned us toward the house. “Come on, Blondie, you’re sexy ass is gonna freeze.”

Inside the garage we passed the Hellcat and Ivy looked up. “I’m sorry, you totally don’t need my emotional baggage right now. Today isn’t about me. It’s about you and I’m dying to know how the meeting went with Anthony.”

I hit the button on the wall so the door could lower. As it moved, the garage dimmed with the lost sunlight. I stopped short of opening the door leading into the house and leaned back against the wood.

She fit between my legs perfectly and I clutched the lapels of her red coat and tugged her close. “My very existence is about you, baby. Everything else is just details.”

Her face softened. “I think that might be my favorite thing you’ve ever said. Besides of course I love you.”

Words for the win!

“Give me some sugar,” I ordered.

She obliged and kissed me.

Blog Tour: City of Illusions Author Interview @judithworks

Author Judith Works has recently published her novel City of Illusions and stopped by The Opinionated Woman’s Musings Blog to talk a little her inspiration for writing.

TOW: What were you like at school?

I was a complete and total wimp and conformist, desperate to be popular. Got a steady boyfriend my junior year in high school and married him after my first year of college. Big mistake!! Dropped out of school and then had to finish the hard way – at night.
TOW: Which writers inspire you?
I like writers who can make historical fiction come alive like Sarah Dunant, and other writers who use Europe as a setting, particularly if the time period is the 1900 to 1945. I also enjoy books specifically about Italy, both history, fiction and nonfiction, and memoir. I found Under the Tuscan Sun inspirational, not because I ever lived Frances Mayes life or because I believed all of it, but because she could make Tuscany come alive through an American’s eyes. This is something I hope my memoir, Coins in the Fountain, soon to be published in paperback, will do for Rome.
TOW: Give us an insight into Laura and Jake. What is it about them that makes them special?
Laura and Jake never should have gotten married – too young and naïve. Laura thought she had found her man but she finds that she has made a mistake.
Laura is beginning to grow up when she realizes that time is passing and she has never done anything interesting with her life. Her internet search for something new turns up a job in Rome.
She slowly becomes more daring and determined, and when she realizes that Jake is not the man she needs, she finds her own way. The path eventually leads to happiness.Jake should have stayed in Seattle because he is overwhelmed by his new situation and easily and naively led astray, all the while telling himself that he really couldn’t possibly be a criminal as he participates in antiquity theft which ultimately leads to a death. He only grows up when he finds himself back in Seattle, older but wiser, and able to be productive and creative.
TOW: What draws you to the romance genre?
The novel doesn’t quite fit into the standard romance category because Laura believes for a long time she can save her marriage, which has become first unromantic and routine, and then as their lives diverge in Rome, increasingly unhappy. But she manages to break away and find love at the end of the story.
I do like stories that have a happy ending, and that is one thing the romance genre provides!
TOW: What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
I spent my career writing administrative and legal documents so I’ve always been writing. I began to write creatively about ten years ago when I began to draft up my stories about Italy and other travels. I’m usually at my desk around 6:30 a.m. and work at writing, revising and reviewing for several hours. All my projects are revised many times before they actually become a finished piece of work so I’m slow.
TOW: What do you do to relax?
I read constantly, I love to travel, and I walk regularly.
TOW: What made you choose Rome for this story?
I chose Rome because I lived there for ten years and I observed some of my fellow expatriates behave very badly. The scene where Laura hosts the disastrous lunch is taken from my own life. Additional I’m interested in ancient history and the illegal antiquity trade, one of the plot lines in the story.  And also, Rome is a very romantic city filled with lots of handsome Italian men, fabulous food and wine, great shopping, and beautiful warm summer evenings. Who could ask for anything more?
TOW: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Writing is hard work. To be a writer means persevering when you want to give up, constantly working to improve your craft, and learning to take critique and apply it to your work in progress. So the message is: hang in there and don’t be discouraged!
