Kill Without Mercy

4heart

Synopsis

Annie is in the small town of Newton, Iowa looking for answers. Her father is known as a serial killer from 15 years ago. When women begin to disappear in the same town. She wonders if she can help stop a killer.

Rafe went to Iowa to clear out his deceased grandfather’s house. Upon overhearing a conversation involving Annie, he decides that he needs to help her with her investigation. When there seems to be threats to Annie’s life, he is more convinced that he is doing the right thing.

Opinion

This book is one of the best thriller/suspense romance books I have read in a long while.

There were so many twists and turns, I almost got whiplash.

I really liked Rafe’s character. He was all alpha male and a protector. Rafe cannot deny the attraction between him and Annie, but initially he was intrigued because he is a sucker for damsel in distress.

“Rafe had a full blown case of savior complex…”

Annie’s life is a hot mess. I did not warm up to her at first, but I was able to understand her. Between the gaps in her memory, the nightmares, and the notoriety of her serial killer father, she was a mystery waiting to be solved.

Once all is revealed… Let’s just say wow!

I cannot say a lot about the story without giving anything away/ One of my favorite parts of the story was the camaraderie  between Rafe and his friends. The five of them are Rafe, Hauk, Teagan, Max, and Lucas. I love them all so much. I cannot wait for them to get their own stories.

Should you buy? Absolutely yes! For me all of the ARES security stories are now on my TBR list. How Alexandra Ivy will top this story is beyond me,  but I am eagerly waiting to find out.

The Branches of Time – Luca Rossi #scifi

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Branches of Time

2heart

Synopsis

Rocks fall from the ski and kill everyone on the island of Turios except for three people: Bashinoir, his wife Lil and the Priestess Miril. When they go to bury the dead, nothing is there as if they people were vaporized. They stay inside Temple because it seems that provides them with magical protection.

Meanwhile, in another dimension called Isk, sadistic King Beanor is looking for a way around the curse that has his kingdom trapped. If his wizard can eliminate everyone on Turios, then the shield will be removed and the curse dissolved.

Opinion

I do not know even know where to start. First off, I am not one that reads a lot of time travel, multi-dimensional stories.

The story started okay. .Everyone but 3 people are dead and the survivors have to figure what they need to do next. But then the story jumps from different dimensions and even different time periods, it was difficult for me to follow.

Concerning the characters, I did not like Beanor and could not understand why someone did not assassinate him. I would have thought one of the wizards would have done that.

Bashinoir and Lil’s relationship could have been better if they would have communicated. There were too many misunderstanding and hurt feelings because no one was talking.

Miril did her best to keep Lil informed but I think that she should have included Bashinoir as well. Considering there were only 3 of them, there did not really need to be such strict separation.

I almost DNF a couple of times (sorry Luca), but I was intrigued enough to see how it ended.  By the end, I could see how the author was trying to intertwine the stories together. However, the ending was not as satisfying as I thought it would be. It almost seemed like the book ended with a cliffhanger which makes me think that there is a sequel.

Should you buy? I’m not sure. So many people have given this book 4 and 5 stars on Amazon and Goodreads, that I wondered what I was missing. If you like fantasy and time travel, you might like this book. I honestly feel I am not the best person to recommend the book because I could not follow portions of the book which were probably integral to the plot.

“Great story line, and secondary characters. Looking forward to reading a lot more from S. Nelson in the future!!!”✨ Goodreads Reviewer
My heart beat faster the second the barrier between us was no more. I kept my head down, glancing at his shiny, black dress shoes, hoping and praying he would simply walk away without saying a word. But I knew the thought was ridiculous, betting Eli had waited years to finally confront me for what I’d done to him. I had never wished for my mother more than I did right then. I would have sent her to the door as a diversionary tactic, but then that wouldn’t have worked because she’d been telling me for years I needed to tell Eli the truth. All of it. No way in hell would she have allowed me to turn him away when he was standing on our doorstep.

The air between us had become stagnant, my eyes still focusing on the ground below. I needed a few more precious seconds before I faced my past.

And my future.

“Look at me,” he growled.

I guess my time’s up.
Recognizing I deserved every bit of his rage, I slowly lifted my eyes until they met his. Instead of panic and fear, though, I was bombarded with a rush of memories of the two of us together all those years ago.

The man standing before me was not the same guy I’d chosen to leave behind back then. Eli was obviously older, the years definitely agreeing with him. If it was even possible, he was more breathtaking than he was in his youth. Sexy scruff hid his strong jaw, all the while highlighting his full and tempting lips. It certainly wasn’t the time to become enthralled with his looks but I found I couldn’t help myself, my body reacting to him as it always did. He was broader than I remembered—hell, he even looked taller. From the expensive suit he wore and the way his hair was styled in that perfect coif, mixed with a hint of messiness, it was apparent he had done very well for himself financially. Never mind the hunk of steel he drove here in which probably cost more than my mother’s house.

My lustful thoughts kept me frozen in the entryway, his eyes mirroring my own as they raked over me from head to toe. Silence continued to stretch between us as I tried to decide how to handle our upcoming conversation. He was clearly pissed at me, hated me even. And I didn’t blame him. Not at all.
S. Nelson grew up with a love of reading and a very active imagination, never putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard until 2013.

Her passion to create was overwhelming, and within a few months she’d written her first novel, Stolen Fate. When she isn’t engrossed in creating one of the many stories rattling around inside her head, she loves to read and travel as much as she can.

She lives in the Northeast with her husband and two dogs, enjoying the ever changing seasons.
