September’s theme for the photo blogging challenge hosted by http://hoohaablog.com was Your Town. Currently, I live in Greenwood SC.
As usual, the hardest part about this was deciding which pictures to use. I really like my community and take pictures when I am out and about all the time. That means that I have a lot to choose from and it’s hard at the same time. Without further ado, my photo picks.

My local favorite restaurant Montagues has a ladies night special each week. This ladies night entrée is half off the regular price. I use this as an opportunity to try new things. The Mediterranean seasoned chicken was paired with lentils, olives, and feta cheese. It was a very delicious combination. I raved about it to the chef and I like to think that was the reason it was on the menu two weeks in a row.

Barbecue pork butts hot off of the grill. My husband was cooking for the local volunteer fire department – Station40 – because they were having their annual fundraiser where they sell barbecue plates. It was a weekend where both of us got very little sleep because we were at the fire station: cooking, cleaning, and selling lots and lots of food. I am glad to report that the fundraiser was able to make some decent money to help buy needed items for the fire station.

I submitted this photo into a local art show competition. It was chosen to be part of the exhibit in October! My first time in a show!!

There are a lot of historical buildings and in around the town where I live. One of the closest is Cokesbury College. Back in its heyday, this was a women’s college. It is no longer used as a college but the building is used for wedding receptions and other types of similar events.

Our local chapter of the United Way had a “Day of Action” which some might know as “Day of Service”. On this day, employees from local area businesses helped to complete projects for nonprofit organizations within the Greenwood community. Our group helped clean the sensory park trail at the Burton Center. The Burton Center is a place where individuals with various degrees of special needs and disabilities are able to go and receive therapy or possible rehabilitation to allow them to be somewhat self-sufficient. Giving back to the community is one of the best impacts you can make.
As you can see, I had a great month and cannot wait to see what October will bring 🙂
Really interesting take on the theme for this month. I especially love your black and white photo and can see why it was chosen for the show – well done.

Congrats on being a part of the art show.
My day job is working in fundraising for a nonprofit in MA, so your day of service photo made me smile.

Thanks for the insider’s look at your town and how much you care for it. Good thing I just had supper or I’d be wanting some of that Mediterranean chicken dish! Congratulations on having one of your photos accepted into a show. Can’t wait to read all about it!
