Photo Blogging #Challenge (October 2016): #Water #photoblog #fun

October’s theme for the photo blogging challenge hosted by http://hoohaa.com/?p=11777 was Water. I knew this would be an easy theme for me because I was going on vacation to Costa Rica (Guanacaste region). In the middle of the rainforest and on the beach, I had plenty of chances for pictures with water.

Everyday it was a little cloudy and it rained. We were in the rainy season. We did not mind though and still went to the beach. It was hot and the slightly overcast sky meant the sun was not a brutal.

Near the resort, we saw locals fishing. He looked so relaxed in the water, that I wanted to capture that moment.

We took an excursion to one of the many waterfalls in the Gaunacaste region. Hubs is in this picture to give you some scale as to how large the waterfall was. I liked this one because of the contrast with the water, greenery, and black rock.

We went to a volcano crater and walked inside of it. The volcano was dormant at the time, but still very hot. The spring water that escaped from the earth was bubbling hot. It was mesmerizing. I knew it was boiling hot but at the same time, I wanted to touch it. I resisted and prevented getting 3rd burns.

On the last day, I had this cucumber, pineapple, spinach juice. In Spanish, these drinks are called “Aguas” which literally means “water”. I included it because by the last day, I was drinking healthy veggie and fruit waters to detox from all the alcohol I had been drinking during our vacation 😀

I love looking at the lush greenery made possible by the abundance of water in the form of rainfall.

As you can see, I had a great month and cannot wait to see what the theme will be in November 🙂

  1. Rainforest? You really took this month’s water theme seriously. Volcano? Very intrigued by that, how close could you get until you felt the temperature?

    • Yea, I’m an overachiever. LOL 😀 I was happy to see the theme since I knew where we were going to vacation.

As we walked in the crater, it was hot but it was a dry heat. I’m guessing about 90-100degrees F. We did not get too close to the bubbling water because I did not want to risk falling. There were multiple signs to stay on path.

We did not see any lava though. One day, I would like to go to Hawaii and see active volcanoes.

  2. Aguas, huh?
I was lucky to visit Costa Rica myself in another lifetime. We were in Manuel Antonio and up North at the Sugar Beach, both gorgeous. As my plane was landing in San José I witnessed some activities around El Arenal. Acivities of the orange / red lava kind! Unforgettable.

Thank you for sharing such wonderful memories!

    • I want to go El Arenal one day. We were 4 hours away, so it didn’t make sense to spend an entire day traveling for a couple hours of viewing. Next time ( no time frame in mind yet), we will plan to stay closer to the other side of Costa Rica.

  3. Beach and fishing… my favorites!!!! And I laughed at the boiling water part… I would be just like you – I would want to touch it!

The alcohol comment also made me laugh. Great photos!

  4. What a great trip! I have to admit I’m a little jealous. Costa Rica is a place I have wanted to visit for a long time. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

They are all great photos, but I especially like the man fishing. Great moody shot!

  5. I think one of the best things about the PBC is that there’s always a way to make the theme fit your plans…although sometimes you have to get pretty creative. I can just imagine how you smiled when you read that the October theme was water and put that together with your already planned vacation in Costa Rica. Serendipity! Your photos convey a good sense of the place and some of the many reasons to go visit. I agree with all the earlier comments about the fisherman photo and the volcano water, but my top pick is your bonus photo – love the contrast of the red rooftops against the lush green vegetation.
