Photo blogging #challenge August 2017 #summerFUN #photoblog

The theme for August photo blog and challenge hosted by http://hoohaa.com was Summer Fun. I have had a rough couple of months with the deterioration of my grandmother’s health and her ultimate demise in July. So, for August’s picture selections, the pictures are not as artistic as I have tried in the past. It was more about celebrating life while dealing with our family’s loss.

Hubs decided that we needed to go on a day road trip on Saturday to take our mind off things. We went down to Duluth GA and window shopped with no particular goal in mind. We ate lunch at a Korean/Chinese restaurant. I had Korean pork BBQ. My fave.

Since I was in the path of totality, I saw the eclipse. My picture during total eclipse was not that great because I needed a better camera lens. In any case, it was breathtaking to witness it in person. It was like nothing I have ever experienced. Well worth all the hype and more.

My baby Blaze got in a fight 😦 and needed to go to the vet for his injury. Thankfully, it was not that serious. He got an antibiotic shot and did not need any other meds. I should have named him Houdini because on the trip to the vet, he got out of his carrier. I do not know how since the door was closed.

This is my Young Living Orb diffuser in action. On my way to work, I started diffusing lemon and peppermint essential oil because it helps calm and balance my emotions. Grief can be something serious. I am glad that I have a natural options to help me to get a handle on releasing negative emotions without it consuming me.

One Friday evening, I went to Montague’s (local restaurant) to hear Rachel Davis sing and Kenny Price play the guitar. This duo is also part of a band called The Bonnie Situation. If you love 90s music and you live near Upstate SC, it will be worth your while to go hear them play. I particularly love to hear Rachel perform covers “You Oughta Know” (Alanis Morrisette) and “Free Your Mind” (En Vogue). She has a set of lungs on her to hit the notes like a pro. And Kenny did a good job too.

These were just a few of the pictures that show SUMMER FUN for me.

  1. Oh my! It doesn’t sound like Blaze was having much summer fun, and hope he’s better now. We were also in the path of totality. I put my glasses over my camera lens and was surprised at how well it worked. I’ve been looking at the Young Living essential oils too. They’ve come highly recommended by a few of my friends. Hope your summer’s end is going well.

  2. I am sorry to hear you are going through some tough times.
Good idea on the diffuser and the essential oils. Have you tried grapefruit, it’s supposed to have an uplifting effect.
Your cat did not want to go see a doctor, I can tell 😉
Great you were able to experience the solar eclipse!

  3. Like others, I really enjoyed your story about Blaze (aka Houdini) and am glad to read that everything is fine on that front. And I think you did a decent job with your eclipse photo. Even with a good lens, it took Mr. GeoK more than a dozen tries to get the focus tuned just right to end up with a couple of clear images. We didn’t have eclipse viewing glasses, but we had 2 neutral density filters that we threaded on, one over the other, for a total of 20 stops, which worked okay. It was hard, but I never once looked at the sun during the eclipse. One neighbour who came by sure wanted to, though. I really like the idea of the smell of peppermint and lemon in the air…not only soothing, but also summery!

  4. First, sorry for your loss. It seems like you had a few things for this month that helped you get your mind moving and wandering. A good meal is always a way to do that! And glad to hear, after reading other comments, that your cat is better. As for the eclipse, it really was something cool to witness, that’s for sure!
