Beautiful Blogger Award

Thanks Rohan for nominating me for my first blog award. I knew 2013 was going to be a good year šŸ™‚

beautiful-blogger-award

The Beautiful Blogger award has Ā been given to me by inspirational superstar Rohan who has found 7 things that have helped him find happiness (but I digress…more on that later). I like reading his posts because he has a interesting perspective on life. Plus, his photography is phenomanal!

So the rules state that I must give 7 facts about myself that are not listed on my ā€œAbout Meā€ page, and then pass the award onto 7 other bloggers, so here goes:

  1. I love Johnny Cash songs.
  2. I am working on my first romance novel. I am not writing everyday but when I think of a scene, I type it out. At this pace, I might be finished in another 3-5 years. But I’m in no hurry.
  3. I like aromatherapy and other holistic remedies. I create and sell scented bath scrubs and salts using different essential oils.
  4. My hubby and I are like a real life version of Green Acres (Green Acres was about Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert), an erudite New York City attorney, acting on his dream to be a farmer, and Lisa Douglas (Eva Gabor), his glamorous Hungarian wife, dragged unwillingly from the city life she adored to a ramshackle farm- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Acres.) Hence the chickens in #5 šŸ™‚
  5. My hubby and I have chickens that lay eggs most days. I named them lazy chicks because they get lazy sometimes. and don’t lay eggs as often as I would like them to. I have to threaten to make chicken soup in order for them to act right.
  6. To make a living and pay the bills, I work as an international trade compliance specialist.
  7. I am an ambassador for the local Chamber of Commerce in my town. It has helped me to have a greater appreciation for small businesses. Chain stores and franchises are good, but I try to support small business whenever possible.

Nominate 7 Bloggers & Tell them you nominated them!! So here are my nominees:

  1. Quirkywritingcorner – This blog is aptly named because the posts are quirky and random. I think that is part of her charm. She is a published fiction author that provides her point of view on life experiences. Check her out, become friends, and maybe you might have a guest appearance in her next book.
  2. bldodson – I love reading all ofĀ Ā Bruce’s stories but especially the tales of two kitties named Buckmister and Amber. Check out his blog to see what I am talking about.
  3. allergictomylifebattle – I have food allergies but not to this extent. I think that everyone should read this blog to understand what is is like for a person whose food choices are limited because it is a life and death matter (not exaggerating).
  4. thejigglybits – In the short time since I have found her blog, I feel like I have found a kindred spirit who consistently tells it like it is in a humorous way.
  5. budgetcookingblog – I don’t cook a lot, but I like seeing the pictures on this blog to give me ideas when I get the urge to whip something up in the kitchen. If you like to cook, you will get ideas. If you don’t like to cook, these posts will probably make you hungry and want to try to cook.
  6. bbanublog – Her creative writing skills take you as the reader on a journey. I feel as if, there should be mediation music playing in the background while I read her blog.
  7. thebrandbuilder – He provides very useful information how to create your brand and market it effectively.Ā  His in depth analysis has helped me to look at the way I am doing things in order to make sure I am conveying the message that I want my readers to capture. Read it and be informed.

My Keep Calm meme

My mom was English and I remember watching Doctor Who with her when I was a child. But then I grew up and forgot about it. Then one day I saw on BBC America an advertisement for the latest season of Doctor Who. I had to watch it. And now I feel like things have come full circle. If my mom could see me now (she passed away in 1998) she would laugh and we would probably be watching the episodes together.

The Doctor Who story lines still capture my interest. I have definite opinions and spirited conversations with my friends concerning who was the best Doctor / companion combination.

David Tennant is my absolute favorite Doctor

Martha Jones is my all time favorite companion (Amy Pond was my least favorite but I did not mind Rory)

I like how many of the story lines use aliens to explain events in history. Most memorable was the Pompeii episode (even if Donna Noble was the companion).

Aliens were the REAL reason for the volcano. Even though the daleks are the most feared, the weeping angels are the most creepy EVER. I am not afraid of the dark, but something about the weeping angels makes me want to turn on the lights.

That being said, I am calmly awaiting the new season of Doctor Who and wondering about the new adventures. So excited. So maybe not so calm šŸ˜€

Bodies exhibition

If you are fascinated by the human body, YOU have to check out this exhibit. If you are studying to be in the medical field, YOU need to see
this exhibit.
You will have a whole new appreciation for bodily functions and motions that you took for granted. Examine the body from the inside out-circulatory, digestive, muscular, and all the other systems. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Although, it was difficult to go through the section about unborn bodies. It is sad to know that a life ended before it really got a chance to start.

I was inspired to exercise after seeing this. I heart my body and I want to take care of myself the best way I know how.
And in other thoughts, I do not know how someone can study the body in detail and not be convinced there is a Creator. The intelligence that was needed to make our body is definitely out of this world!

John’s Water Ice – Philly PA

I did not know about water ice until I was in Philadelphia, PA (maybe I knew but didn’t pay attention). On this particular summer day, I was hot and wanted something sweet and cold to eat. I took a chance by going to John’s Water Ice. I think in the backof my mind I thought that I might have heard of water ice before from one of the many travelling food show that I watch (but I could not be sure). I was so glad that I tried it.

This is the ultimate icee. I love this shaved ice that has the texture of ice cream even though it is small ice pieces. I chose Cherry because
that is my favorite summertime flavor. The flavor was sweet like fruit punch or HiC without the syrupy aftertaste.

It was so good, I am hesitant to try any other water ice. I don’t know how anyone could make a water ice any better. I would rather revel in
this memory instead of spoiling it by eating a mediocre water ice. And the next time I am in Philly, I know where to go for a delicious cool treat.
