Review: Dirty Shame #romance #whattoread #bookaddict

Dirty Shame by Tess Oliver

Synopsis
Kellan is a coal miner.

Rylan is the daughter to a coal owner big wig.

In high school, they thought that they would stay together because they were in love. But something happened and Kellan treated her like the relationship was over. Then Rylan heard rumors that Kellan was cheating on her, and she was heartbroken.

Opinion
Kellan and Ryland meet back up and the attraction is instantaneous. I wish they had had communicated more in the beginning. These needed to be a little more talking and less jumping in the bed with one another.

Also, the backdrop for this story depressed me. It was such a sad town that was lacking in economic opportunities for the average person. The rich held all of the wealth with little regard to the poor people in their midst. Added to that, there was strict segregation of the two classes. The way that the author had of highlighting the socio-economical issues of this town, left me without any hope. Sure Kellan and Rylan will get together, but they are going to most likely struggle. A LOT. I know that I’m probably being a Debbie Downer right now. But whatevs.

I might have liked the book better if by the end, Kellan was going to get another job. I understand that coal mining is a way to make an honest living. No one mentions that Kellan will probably get black lung or some other health problem associated with mining coal. Part of the happy ever after scenario should not include a shorten lifespan. Too much like real life.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BORROW. If you want real life, this is it.

One night stands.
Career-driven Ali Whitman, never dreamed of having one, until she finds herself waking up next to a handsome tattooed man she knows nothing about. After celebrating her promotion to field reporter at Entertainment Rocks! magazine, she breaks her number one rule – to focus on work without the distraction of the opposite sex.
Rules.
Tyler Young lives by his own set. As bassist for Devil’s Garden, he exudes sexual energy and lives for the moment; no strings attached, no regrets, and no looking back.

When the two are brought face to face during an interview it goes sour, sparking a string of disasters. As their feelings for each other grow, they find themselves living by a new set of rules, but demons from the past haunt their new found love. Is it possible to crawl from the ashes of the aftermath or will it all go down in flames?
Love.
Perfect bliss or complete disaster?

He takes a few steps closer and pulls me toward him by my hips. “No one will die if we’re a few minutes late.”

Oh no, I’m not getting blamed for this too. I already have enough going against me when it comes to his band mates. No need to give them another reason to hate me.

“He who hesitates is lost.” I step into the shower. Okay, my brain turned to auto-pilot and refuses to let me curb all desires.

He winks. “I like the way you think, babe.” He joins me in the shower and positions the shower head so it pulses on his chest. “Ready to get wet?”

Way ahead of you.

“I’ve never met a girl like you. You tell me exactly how it is. You’re not afraid to try something you never thought you’d do. You’re smokin’ hot with a brain like Einstein. Hell, you even wrote smut about my band in a national magazine and I still can’t get you off my mind.” He presses his forehead against mine. “Don’t you get it? I want you and not just for the few months I’m in L.A. You’ve survived an earthquake and shark attack with me. You’re the one I want by my side in a zombie apocalypse, babe.”
Heat flushes through my body like wildfire. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard would involve the terms shark attack and zombie apocalypse. I’m in, much deeper than I’ve ever imagined. I want this to work with Tyler, but the obstacles aren’t easy to overcome. Yeah I know, nothing great is ever easy, but being together requires Tyler to change his whole outlook on what he wants. Is he ready to do that? I’m finally getting to a place in my career where I want to be, too. I’m not ready to give it up before it starts. We need to think with our brains rather than our hearts. Is there really a chance for us?

Cover Reveal: Hitched by Christine Manzari @Xenatine #NAromance

Title: Hitched
Series: Hearts of Stone #2
(can be read as standalone)
Author: Christine Manzari
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: March 21, 2017
For aspiring journalist Harlow Ransom, life is just a well-oiled machine, and if she plans well, all things will go accordingly. And that is exactly why Harlow lives her life by perfectly polished to-do lists that she refuses to stray from—even when she’s celebrating her 21st birthday in Sin City.
1. Visit the Boom Boom Blues Lounge
2. See the water show at the Bellagio
Things can’t possibly go askew if she crosses things off her list one by one. But after a night of celebrating leads to waking up in bed with a sexy stranger and a ring on her finger, Harlow realizes that in no point in time did she ever have “Get Married” on her trusty to-do list. Yet that’s exactly what she did.
Professional snowboarder Trace Stone loves a good challenge—he’s all about the win. And this time, he’s going to find a way to win over the feisty, meticulous Harlow. The wedding may have been spontaneous and impulsive, but when he said “forever,” he meant it. Now, the only thing he wants on Harlow’s to-do list is him—from this day forward.

I released a defeated breath as I felt my body collapse further into the seat. “Why do you even want to stay married to me, Trace?” He was cocky and impulsive and charming. I couldn’t understand why he was fighting so hard to hold on to someone as prickly as me.

His eyes met mine—possessive, dark, and hungry. I was caught by surprise when he leaned forward to press his mouth against mine. His tongue and lips pulled a smoldering kiss out of me, and I didn’t even try to stop him. I was burning—absolutely burning from the inside out—from the fierce way his mouth clung to mine. Trace pulled back to look at me.

Wow. A kiss like that in less than three seconds? No wonder the hotel room was littered with condoms. No wonder I married him.

“Because,” he said, holding my gaze. “I want to be able to do that any time I feel like it.” He ran his thumb across my bottom lip. His voice dropped, low and husky. “And because I like the idea that you’d be mine.”

His. To do that to any time he wanted. I could almost hear my body singing the “Hallelujah” chorus in response. I wanted to beg him to move that hand lower and push me into the final crescendo. Make me see stars. I should be pissed that he was trying to lay claim on me, but no matter how much I tried to deny it, I liked Trace. And trying to say no to him got harder each and every time he charmed me.

For a moment I wondered if being his would be such a bad thing.

His?

I was in so much trouble.

The first thing Christine does when she’s getting ready to read a book is to crack the spine in at least five places. She wholeheartedly believes there is no place as comfy as the pages of a well-worn book. She’s addicted to buying books, reading books, and writing books. She even turned her dining room into a library—reading is more important than eating. She also has a weakness for adventure and inappropriate humor. Christine is from Forest Hill, Maryland where she lives with her husband, three kids, and her library of ugly spine books.
