Photo Blogging #Challenge August 2015 theme: Rule of Thirds #photoblog

August’s theme for the photo blogging challenge hosted by http://hoohaablog.com was Rule of Thirds. I am not sure what “Rule of Thirds” was supposed to mean, so my pictures are really abstract in relation to the theme.

hard cider rules

I went to hear music at one of my favorite places- a creperie and craft beer locale called Natty’s. I ordered a flight with my uncle. Since he is a light weight when it comes to drinking alcoholic beverages, he drank one and I drank the other 3. I ordered their variety of their on tap hard ciders because I do not care for beer.

fancy fish

During the same visit with my uncle, we went to the Riverbanks zoo in Columbia SC (Fun fact: this zoo is top rated on Tripadvisor). I always enjoy visiting the aquarium and watching the fish. There is something very calming about watching fish swim around with not a care in the world. This picture was included because it looks to me like the fish has three fins.

Montague’s Blacken Salmon

No month is complete without a my requisite food picture. LOL 😀 Once again I went to Montague’s. I chose this picture because there are 3 components to this plate: blackened salmon, mashed potatoes, and root vegetables. Added bonus is that there are three types of root veggies: carrots, red and yellow beets. It was delicious! I love salmon but rarely order it. The mashed potatoes were true comfort food. The root veggies were healthy but tasty. I decided when this is the weekly feature again, I definitely will be ordering it.

reading for days

I am reaching as I explain “thirds” for this picture. This is a picture of my third e-reader. It is a Paperwhite Kindle. I used to use my Kindle Fire and my iPad as e-readers. I started to get headaches because of eye strain. After investigating, I decided to buy the Paperwhite. I am happy to say that my eyes and head do not hurt any more after I have been reading for long periods of time.

chocolate fountain

I went to a business mixer last week and they had a 3-tiered chocolate fountain. When I saw this, I thought it would be perfect to include in the topic of “Thirds”.

Check A ‘lil HooHaa blog tomorrow to see what the theme for September will be. Beginner, expert, and anywhere in between photographers welcomes to participate in the fun.

Grits and Groceries – Saylors Crossing

If you don’t know where Grits and Groceries is located, is hard for me to explain. It is in the middle of nowhere between Abbeville and Anderson South Carolina. Yes there is a sign that says Saylors Crossing, but that means nothing to me. All I know is that when I want to go to Grits and Groceries, I have to travel on a two-lane road through a small town called Due West going for some distance through a speed trap at 25 miles an hour. About 15 or 20 minutes on the other side of Due West, there is an intersection with a large chicken statute as your landmark. And this is how you know you’ve reached your destination.

So why would I make the trek into the deep country? For the praline bacon, of course. The praline bacon is delicious. It is scrumptious. It is addictive. It’s sweet, salty, crunchy, and everything you would want a vice to be.

But one cannot live on praline bacon alone. I ordered the big breakfast sandwich. It is basically a couple of eggs, bacon, and cheese on Texas toast. It is way too much food for me, but it was sufficient.

The picture in the top right corner was what my friend ordered. It was rabbit with a tomato based sauce served over grits. I don’t like grits, but I did taste the rabbit and it was good too.

If you want to go to Grits and Groceries, it is best to go in the summer time so that you can sit outside while you eat your breakfast. If you go in the winter time, there is probably going to be a 45 minute to an hour wait because this place is always crowded (and they don’t take reservations). I have talked to people that have traveled over an hour just to eat at this restaurant.

My suggestion is to order the praline bacon definitely. If you feel adventurous, try one of their gourmet specials. Pretty much everything on their menu is good, but something are AWESOME while others are just okay. Did I mention the praline bacon?
