Midnight (Nightmare Dragons Book 1

Synopsis
Nathan Lancaster. Elusive billionaire. World-wide philanthropist. Monster.

From the moment he was born, Nathan knew he couldn’t let anyone know who, or what, he was, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to make his way in the world. And he’s fine alone, seriously. Until a curvy, persistent reporter steps up and turns his whole world upside down. She’s lighting up all the corners of his darkness and endangering the secrets he has always held so dear. So why can’t he imagine ever letting her go?

When journalist Lillian Goss discovers that the world’s most eligible bachelor might be a criminal, she isn’t afraid to get the scoop at all costs. Unlike the rest of the world, she isn’t dazzled by Nathan’s easy smile, scorching blue gaze, or notable philanthropy. She’s determined to expose his dark side, until she manages to get up close and finds Nathan altogether different than she thought. He’s even willing to grant an exclusive, if Lillian is willing to walk into the shadows that surround his life and heart.

The more Lillian gets to know Nathan, the more complicated her feelings get for a man who’s much lonelier than anyone knows. Yes, he has secrets, but he also is braver, and kinder, than she ever imagined. But as attraction burns hot between them, and an unknown stalker enters the picture, one questions arises for Lillian above all… Where does Nathan go after Midnight?

Midnight is the first book in the Nightmare Dragons series. These books contain intense themes, some dramatic violence, and tortured shifter heroes who might just make some people afraid of the dark.

Opinion
When this was released I was so stoked that Terry Bolyryder had a new book !!!!

I got an advanced copy to read and I am giving an honest review.

First, let me say that this book is darker than any in her previous series. Nathan has a monster in him. He is the thing that nightmares are made of. At midnight, he is compelled to change into the monster and “feed”. Sounds ominous.

I didn’t know if I was going to be rooting for him or not. His sweet side won me over. Plus, he does all he can to help people.

Lillian is a journalist who is determined to find the dirt about Nathan. She was so sure that he is evil that she is doggedly persistent in trying to find out more about him so she can write the investigative story of her career.

Nathan is trying to balance dealing with the monster inside of him and his budding feelings for Lillian. I could understand why Nathan was not more forthcoming. He did not exactly have the most nurturing upbringing. There was no point of reference for him to know what was love or family or even happiness. I felt sad for him because he did not have any hope of his situation getting any better. He was so drawn to Lillian that he chose to love, knowing that he would eventually lose her once she knew his secret.

At the same time, Lillian is dealing with the fact that she is a woman who does not like keeping secrets, but she is hugely attracted to man who has this secret life after midnight! Even with all that, Lillian seemed to be too bitter for me. But considering her past, I made allowances for her behavior. I am glad that she gave Nathan a chance because he deserved to be loved.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. Overall, I loved this book because of Nathan. He was a good guy trying to make the best of a bad situation.

#Review : Lead Dragon (Dragon Guard of Drakkaris) #dragonshifter #bookaddict #newrelease

Lead Dragon

Synopsis
Lead, captain of the dragon guard of Drakkaris, is about to embark on the most difficult mission he’s ever undertaken: trying not to fall in love with the cute, curvy woman he and his team saved and are now tasked with protecting.

Brittany didn’t expect six tall, ridiculously hot dragons to rescue her after she was captured by wolves. But there’s one dragon, with bright golden eyes, long brown hair and the composure of a warrior that she can’t seem to stop thinking about. And while she’s living just a few doors away from him, Brittany’s not sure her own self-control will be able to hold out.

Opinion
I have read all of the books in Terry’s series and I love the world she has created. I thought she ran out of dragon shifters but then she introduced an alien planet full of tall, hunky dragon men who are all looking for that special woman.

At the end of the last book, I felt sorry for Lead because he was a good man who moved out of the way for the sake of true love. Now he has his own book!!!

When Lead meets Brittney, he tries to keep his attraction under wrap so that he does not act on it. But his desire to claim his mate makes him irritable and confusing as he is sending mixed signals.

I know that Brittney was in an enviable position to have all these hot men at her beck and call. She was good not to play with their emotions though. It was funny that she projected her thoughts so “loudly” that the other dragons knew who she really wanted.

In the end, I liked the way they got together. They were a good fit for each other.

I CANNOT WAIT for the rest of the books in this series!!!!!!

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. To get the full impact of this world, read the Awakened Dragons series. However, this is a standalone romance.

#Review : Steel (Rent-A-Dragon Book 1) #romance #dragonshifter #whattoread #bookaddict

Steel (Rent-A-Dragon Book 1)

Synopsis
A dragon as a handyman? Ridiculous.

At least Liam Steel thinks so. Sure, he and his crew of newly-awakened metal dragons are experts at building things, but after being sunk at the bottom of a frozen ocean, all they want is to find the mates they were sailing in search of in the first place, and Liam isn’t sure how that can happen while he’s playing in the dirt. Until he meets his first client, a sweet, curvy, no-nonsense business-woman busy taking care of everyone but herself. His heart screams ‘mate’, and he’s ready to get his hands on more than her yard.

Kate Hinton doesn’t know what to make of the beefcake Rent-A-Dragon sent over to help with her yard. Impossibly tall with soulful teal eyes, dark hair, and the features of a male model, she’s pretty sure he should be walking a runway rather than digging trenches in her yard. And the way he looks at her? Like nothing else matters in the world. But the more she gets to know her kind, friendly, amazingly efficient handyman, the more she is realizing he’s not from her world.

He lives in a remodeled castle. He doesn’t know certain modern words. And he definitely doesn’t understand the rules of modern courtship. But somehow, Kate is finding herself falling in love with this ‘dragon’ all the same, and finding out there is a whole other world outside her own. One full of secrets, and danger, and maybe even the love of a lifetime.

Opinion
I have been waiting for this series for a while now and Bolryder did not disappoint. OMG!!!! I love Liam. He was too cute. The only thing he wants is to settle down with his mate and love her for life. All he needs is to find her.

Kate had a bad previous relationship and has decided she wants to maintain boundaries to prevent them from moving too quickly. It does not help that being with Liam just “seems right”.

While she is struggling to show her independence, it seems more nefarious powers are at play trying to keep them apart. Plus, she thinks he is crazy for saying he is a dragon.

In the end, they get their happy ending and I am stoked for this new series. Glad to read about a somewhat-happy-on-the-outside Aegis and a very-much-in-love Opal.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. Liam is a sweetheart. This was a great beginning to the new series while continuing in the world that Bolryder created.

#Review : Silver (Date-A-Dragon Book 2) #romance #whattoread #bookaddict

Silver (Date-A-Dragon Book 2)

Synopsis
Adrien is the Silver dragon. He hates humans, especially women. Before he was put to sleep, he was at the top of the food chain. Now, he is relegated to trying to find his mate among the throngs of women who are grabby and do not take no for an answer.

Kelsey has had a hard life, but seems to pick herself up time and time again. She has learned that depending on others means getting taken advantage of. So she tries to stay to herself as the best protection. That is why when Adrien comes to her rescue she is immediately suspicious.

Opinion
I admit that I was curious to read about the woman would succeed in thawing the heart of the Silver dragon. Adrien’s disdain for humans was so pronounced, that I figured that he would not meet his mate through a date. Citrine had the hardest time trying to get him to cooperate. Added to his disgust was the fact that women would be so aggressive because of his good looks.

He is so handsome, he must want to be touched. Right? Wrong. Consent is consent, no matter the gender.

Then Kelsey comes along, proving all of Adrien’s assumptions about humans wrong. As much as he hates humans, his mate might be one?

Coming to terms with that unleashes a charming side of the Silver dragon that no one thought existed. I was in love! When he put his mind to winning his mate, he took notes and made a plan of action. That first date ended with a bang!

This book is funny but highlights a societal issue that is very rarely discussed: homelessness among women. It is a real issue and I wish men like Silver were really out there to beat up the bad guys.

I am hoping that Citrine will be next but I think it will be Sever (Platinum). I am stoked either way.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. Great, entertaining story with fun characters.

Emerald Dragon – Awakened #Dragons Series #paranormalromance #shifterRomance

Emerald Dragon (Awakened Dragons Book 6)

Synopsis
Aegis has been looking for Opal for years and finally finds her. To his surprise, she was being held captive by the dark oracle, the same woman who Aegis has been loosely aligned with. He does not care if he has to take on the world if it means he will have his one true mate for eternity.

Even though the Opal dragon has been imprisoned for hundreds of years and been the victim of many injustices, she still has this overly optimistic view of people. While she knows that Aegis is most likely her one and true mate, she does not think they will be happy together since he has a decidedly less optimistic view of people and their intentions. She ran from him once before and she will run again if she thinks it would be best for her sanity.

Opinion
Aegis and Opal were a classic story of opposites attract. She is an eternal optimist and he is ever the pessimist.

In the series, Aegis has always been the villain or more amoral than not. At times, we saw a bit of a selfless side. I am so glad he has his own book. Here, we get the full picture that helps us to understand why he is the way he is.

For somebody who was bullied for so long, he decided once he had power that he never would be in a situation where he would be the victim. When they were children, it seemed that Opal would never fight for herself. Aegis felt that he had to protect her because he always said that they were fated mates.

I do not totally agree with the reasons Opal gave for leaving Aegis, but I can understand how she was not happy. She wants to give everyone the benefit of the doubt even when they are obviously taking advantage of her. In the case of Aegis, he has put up a protective wall to prevent himself from getting hurt as he did as a child.

As adults, Opal realizes that she still has the same feelings for Aegis as she did when they were younger. As she’s trying to navigate this new world, she’s also trying to figure out if they really can be happy together. Aegis, on the other hand, realizes that without Opal, he has no reason for existing.

Aegis is also finding out what it is like to have friends, people that have your back no matter what. Up until now, this concept was foreign to him because everybody that he knew wanted something from him.

I am glad they have their happy ending. I was rooting for Aegis more than Opal. I know it was in her nature to let people take advantage of her, but it was infuriating to say the least. In the end, I like that she finally was able to understand Aegis’ point of view.
