Forevermore is so cute

Scale of 1 – 5: ♥ ♥ ♥♥

In this novella, Cameron sets his sights on Clarice when he met her while visiting for his cousin’s wedding. He was a man who knew what he wanted and was confident that he would succeed. Clarice was a widow who did not have good experiences with men. In short, even though she was attracted to Cameron, she did not think she was worthy of his intentions.

Cameron was a man with little time before he had to return home, so he had to make the most of every opportunity to show Clarice how he felt. It was love at first sight. All perceived barriers would not prevent him from having the woman with whom he fell in love.

I loved the story. Clarice was full of reasons why it would not work. Cameron shot holes through everyone. I particularly liked how it ended. Yes it is a given that it is a happy ever after ending, but Cameron’s finesse was top-notch. I loved his attitude. Even though this is a novella, I thought the characters had enough depth for the story.

It is rare that I rate a novella so highly, but I loved everything about this book. Buy this book!!!! You will not be disappointed.

The right kind of kisses can be dangerous

Scale of 1 – 5: ♥ ♥ ♥

There is a serial killer on the loose. Sydney (a reporter) and Jake (police detective) both want him caught, but have different ideas of how to achieve this goal. When the serial killer turns his attention to stalking Sydney, it gives them a chance to get to know each other on a deeper level.

Jake’s father was an officer who was killed in the line of fire. Jake does not want to fall in love, only to have something happen and leave behind a widow in emotional distress. Knowing he did not want an emotional involvement, Sydney is struggling to keep her heart guarded as well. But in the end both of them realizes that their kisses involve more than a little bit of pleasure. And with a crazy man on the loose, they find out quickly how much they really value what they have.

This was an entertaining read. The mystery suspense was balanced in the budding romance. In typical fashion, it takes a killer nearly succeeding to wake Jake up to how he really feels. The scary thing about serial killers is that they can be anyone. Psychopaths seemingly fit into society camouflaging their true nature this makes it difficult for police to catch them. Fortunately for Sydney, Jake is on the case.

The lure of love

The Lure of Love by Mona Ingram ♥♥♥

This story is about three friends and their individual love stories. I am not usually a fan of multiple love stories in one book but since these all happened concurrently it was okay with me. The setting for this story takes place at a fishing lodge in British Columbia.

Couple number one Craig and Jamie
Craig is a widower and documentary film director. Jamie is the owner of the lodge where Craig has come to visit to possibly film a documentary.

Couple number two Billy and Brooke
Billy is a baseball player with a reputation for being a ladies man. Brooke works at the lodge as sort of a office manager.

Couple number three Matt and Leeza
Matt is married and a real estate agent who won a trip to the fishing lodge. Lisa is the chef for the lodge.

The author did a good job of keeping their stories individualized, but intertwining them enough to create a cohesive story. As a novella, the book moves fast. That being said, each of the three couples have connections which is the reason for sharing very intimate personal baggage (and there was a lot of emotional baggage with these three couples) very quickly. The more that they share about each other provides the rationale for why they fall in love with each other so quickly. In some of Mona Ingram’s other books, I have found the stories to be lacking some feeling. However in this book, I think the characters’ story really comes out in a way that conveys the emotional situation of each person.

As a side note: I feel that I have to say something about the fact that Matt is married in the beginning of the story. His marriage is only a technicality and as you read the story you understand.

Overall, The Lure of Love was a sweet book and an enjoyable read. I finished it in a couple hours and was satisfied with the outcomes of each couple.

Run your ice off 5K style

I do not DO mornings, especially on weekends. I do not DO cold.
But on a cold Saturday morning in February, I was up and dressed by 7:30. When I say "cold", I mean water was freezing. The thermometer showed 28 degrees.

I thought that I was crazy.
But there was a reason for my madness. I had decided that in 2013, I was going to run/walk in a 5k. It was my "good health" personal goal for the year. I was resolved to participate. No matter the temperature. It is my opinion that when you set goals, if you begin to make trivial excuses, it is harder meet the goal. It is better to make every effort to do it and then you have achieved something you wanted to accomplish. Once I registered online a couple weeks before the race, I knew I had to do it or lose my money.

Checking in was easy. I got my t-shirt and little gift bag, which I put in the car. I saw some friends and we chatted in high pitched voices indicating our excitement.
As I made my way to the starting point, I was anxious to begin. I was bouncing, shifting my weight from one foot to the other. I saw people stretching, so I figured I better do that too. That helped calm me down.

And then I began to feel the cold on my ankles. I went back to the car and put on my extra pair of socks.
Hubby was supposed to come out and I was feeling a little despondent because I did not see him. But then, like a beacon of light, I saw his car pull up. It gave me renewed energy. He is a great supporter of whatever I do.

By this time, it was getting close to 8:00 am. Runners began to gather near the starting line. Time to do what we came to do. Run this race.

Ready. Set. Go.

I was like a shot out of the gate, but within probably a quarter of a mile, I began to go at my regular stride. I knew that if I wanted to finish, I needed to pace myself. I had only been training for about a month, so I knew I do not yet have the endurance to run the whole 3.5 miles.

I found that I run best when I kept my eyes closed. I focused on the movement of my feet hitting the pavement. Two friends were running alongside me, but they both have longer legs so I had to take two steps to their one if I wanted to keep up with them.

I thought that I would have my iPod blasting with music to keep me pumped up, but the ear buds kept falling out of my ears.
In the end, I talked a little with my friends when we walked.
When we were running, we yelled encouraging phrases at each other to motivate: "KEEP IT UP!" "YOU GOT THIS!" "WE ARE ALMOST FINISHED!"
When we saw the finish line, the adrenaline kicked in and we gave all we had to run that last little bit.

My ending time was 48 minutes.

I did not win, but I did not come in last place either. That was my goal for my first 5k.
Hooray for me.
I had fun with good friends. Most importantly, I proved to myself that I could do it.

This was a great first 5k race for me. I recommend anyone who wants to exercise to participate. The race is usually the couple of weeks first of February in Greenwood SC.

Apple in a bag should be second choice

I went to Subway a while back and instead of getting Lays potato chips as my side, I decided to get Apple crisps. I like trying new things. Plus I am probably every marketer’s dream because I am a sucker for pretty packaging. I can admit this about myself and I tried not to let a product’s packaging way too heavily in my purchasing decision making.

While the packaging may catch my eye, I read the claims that are made and try to decide if the product is worth my purchase with that. The package said crunchy premium apple crisps. I like apples. I love crunchy apples but at times if the apple sits too long on the counter it will get soft. I thought this would be a good way to carry apples around with me without having to worry about the apples over ripening and getting too soft.

The good:
fat-free, not fried
100% natural – no added sugar- because apples are sweet enough only 45 calories for the whole bag!
gluten-free

The bad:
serving size was the equivalent of one apple -I should have had a fresh apple was not crunchy the texture of the Apple was chewy
it tasted tart – maybe a little sugar would have helped after they put the lemon juice to maintain apple’s color

Overall, the next time I will get a fresh apple instead.
