Alien Attraction (Alien Mate 2)

Synopsis
How insane is it to marry an alien as a publicity stunt?

I’m Sunny Weathers. You probably recognize me from my reality show, Sunny Weathers’ Excellent Adventures. I’ve had to perform a lot of crazy stunts in my career, but this one takes the cake! The producers are sending me to another planet to become an alien’s mail order bride. I’m not allowed to tell anybody it’s a gimmick, and as soon my contract is up, I’ll be leaving planet Dakon. Unfortunately, I hadn’t counted on my attraction to Mr. Tall, “Darq,” and Handsome…

I’m Darq. The moment I laid eyes on the female with pretty mud-colored hair and a sunny smile, I knew she was mine. Competition for females is fierce, and I was determined to claim a mate from the latest shipment from Earth, so I broke the rules. If anyone finds out, my own brother would banish me to the icy wilderness, and I’d lose my mate. I will do anything to keep her…

Opinion
I was gifted this book back in April in hopes I would provide an honest review. Every time I tried to write the review, i ended up rereading the book. I wanted to stay in this world, especially since everything works out in the end.

This is the second book in the Alien Mates series. In this one, Bristol did not disappoint.

I thought that Sunny was getting a raw deal all the way around because she did not want to do another season of the reality show but needed to money to help her nephew. I was worried how the story was going to go because Sunny is trying to have a relationship that was real enough for the cameras and her contract but not too involved that she would break his heart when she left. I knew they would have crazy chemistry because it is a romance, but I was still stressed.

Then when Sunny realized she wanted to be with him and wanted to keep it private, I hoped she could get rid of all the cameras. I liked her feisty attitude in dealing with the TV station. She knew they were exploiting her but she had her plan to use them. And she did what she could to “accidentally“ kill a few of their cameras along the way.

I was not sure where the real conflict would come into the picture. I wondered if the studio Apogee was going to make Darq look foolish for the ratings. How was he going to react when he found out about the cameras?

Thankfully, he had his own little deception to keep him on edge. Dakonian lottery is still in full effect, with so many unintended consequences. As a result, Darq could be in deep trouble if he dishonesty is revealed.

Because both of them had their secrets, they were so appreciative of their time together. It was as if they were thinking that once the truth was revealed they might lose each other. That made the story even sweeter.

Even though I am usually a fan of the truth being revealed, in this case, I had hoped that he would get away with his little act of dishonesty. There were still some unexpected things to happen that enhanced the story.

In the end, I am glad everything is resolved to my satisfaction and I am looking for to the next book. I already think I know who it is going to be and I am excited but conflicted. Read this book and you will understand!

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. Overall, I loved it. Like I said, I read it multiple times already. I’m glad everything was resolved, with all the questions answered by the end.

Breeder #review #scifi #amreading #romance @carabristol

Breeder by Cara Bristol

Synopsis
High Commander Dak is the ruling Alpha of planet Parseon. He purchases Omra as a breeder slave because in this world, females are mainly used to bear children. He wants a son and thinks after that duty is done, he will have no other need for her. By law, he is to use Omra to have his child and not for any sexual gratification.

Omra was raised knowing that one day she would be a breeder slave and her sire protected her virginity to increase her value. Her hope was that the male that chose her would not abuse her. When Dak purchased her, she was optimistic because he seemed like a strict but reasonable person.

The Parseon culture judges harshly anyone who takes pleasure carnal activity or attempts to treat females with more regard than dictated. As Dak begins to question the strict cultural norms, it seems that nefarious forces will try to exploit any perceived weakness to cause his downfall.

Opinion
I voluntarily read an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
I was hesitant about reading this book because I was worried that I would not like it. Mainly, because it is out of the range of what I would usually read. The author stated it was a dark romance and while I like suspense, I tend to stay away from the dark romance because it usually deals with issues that I do not find entertaining or like to read about in romance.

Saying all that to say, I love this book.

Yes it is dark. The world in which the author has created is a misogynistic place in the extreme. There is so much abuse towards females in general because it seems that the males hate that they need females to procreate.

Males in this world are divided into two categories: alphas and betas. The alphas run things. They are the ones that own property and are in charge. The betas are in a submissive position to the alpha. They live together after an “anointing” with the alpha as the breadwinner and the beta takes care of the domestic duties. The females are relegated to the role of breeder slaves and treated in some cases worse than a farm animal.

Why did I love this book?
One, I loved the world building. This world was so complex that I could not even think of another book that I’ve read to compare it to. As I was reading, I was on the edge of my seat trying to imagine how Dak and Omra would be able to have a relationship without him losing his position. Then I questioned what it would mean for him to lose his position. Plus the risk of the villain winning had me holding my breath because I could not guess how it was going to end.

Two, I appreciated the changes that Dak made to treat the Omra as more of an equal than society deemed her to be. While he was very strict at times, he was looking at the bigger picture and implications of his actions at all times. In that sense, he tried to be a decent alpha and protector.

Three, the ending of the book left me with hope that even though it is a dark, depressing society for women in general, the inklings of compassion indicate that change will come in time. Dak evolves in the book because he has a modicum of compassion and tenderness in his heart.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
Buy. If you like reading science fiction especially books with major alien civilization world building, this book is for you.

C is for Cara

Alien Mate

Synopsis
Starr Conner was falsely convicted of murder and shipped off to a planet called Dakon to be something akin to a mail order bride. Earth decided to get rid of felonious females in exchange for Dakon’s minerals which are in high demand on earth.

Torg was delayed when the ship of women came in. By the time he gets there, there is only one woman left. It is obvious that she does not meet his expectations, but he decides having a woman is better than nothing.

Opinion
I was gifted this book. I decided to write an unbiased review.

Starr was my kind of girl because she seemed to be rational and tried to make the best of a bad situation. While the story predictably had her withholding pertinent information in the beginning, I understand why she did it. Torg was not the most reasonable male when it came to some things.

Torg might have not been around a lot of women, but he was a quick learner when it came to relationships. I chuckled at some of his inner thoughts when he decided what NOT to say because he had a sense that it might cause her to be mad with him. He might be an alien, but he had the makings a good husband from the get go. It was endearing.

I don’t know why, but I loved it when Torg called her StarrConner. I thought that was especially cute.

Starr and Torg had some ups and downs in their relationship from external forces trying to keep them apart. For the most part, they handled it well. Then there was a surprise conflict that I did not see coming. I was stressing because I did not know if the villain would be found out or if it was going to be an issue resolved in a future book. I’ll let you read for yourself to find out more.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. Alien Mate will be released April 10, 2017. I have loved everything that Cara has done, so I can say this met expectations. I hope this is a series because it will be a BUY for me and I am very excited.

Claimed by the cyborg

4heartSynopsis
March fell for Jules when she was an alien exchange student visiting earth. She left all of a sudden and March has never forgotten her.

In the intervening years, he has become a cyborg. Now March’s job brings him to Xenia and he wants to see if he can find Jules to at least get closure to understand why she left him years ago.

Julieta is in line to be the next Xenian emperor and falling in love with a Terran man March was not part of the plan.

Years later, she still regrets leaving March, but she is determined to sacrifice her happiness for her people. Then March is on her planet and all her resolve is gone.

Opinion

FTC disclosure: I voluntarily read an advanced reader’s copy of this book

This book was the most romantic cyborg book I have ever read. I know it sounds like I am exaggerating, but once you read it, you will understand. I feel like it needs it’s own soundtrack. Descriptive language painted such a detailed picture, my emotions were fully involved.

First of all, I loved March. He was not ashamed to admit that he had fallen in love and the analytical part of his brain wanted to understand what went wrong and why did she leave.

He still dreamed of her and awakened each morning breath to find her gone.”

When March finds Jules and realizes who she is, he is determined to be an honorable man and do what would be best for everyone else.

He was not weak or indecisive, however, he calculated the implications of their union and decided to sacrifice his happiness in order to ensure the stability of her nation. He was going to let her go for the greater benefit of her world. He could not in good conscience ask her to give up being emperor in order to be with him.

What he did not factor into his equation was that Jules was feeling just as strongly about him.

One beckoning smile from Jules… rendered him powerless to resist temptation

Before I even began reading the book, I did not like Jules because she left March and I was in love with March from the beginning. As the story progresses, I could understand why she left years ago and the predicament in which she found herself. I can say that she redeemed herself and I felt that she was worthy to be with March.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?

BUY. I have been recommending this book ever since I read it. I loved it that much. I can best describe this book as sweet but not sappy.

Trapped with the Cyborg

4heart

Synopsis
Sonny and Amanda meet at a bar and have a one night stand. Little do they know, they are working together the next day. They are cyborgs assigned to a top secret assignment that will be very dangerous and possibly turn into a suicide mission.

Opinion
First of all, I love cyborg romances! The author created likable characters with Sonny and Amanda. I was on pins and needles trying to figure out how they would get out of danger. I felt invested in their success. There cannot be a HEA if they are both dead, so I knew they would make it out alive.

But HOW?!?!?!

There were so many plot twists and turns that I could not put my Kindle down.

Image result for nail biting gif
I like how Sonny tries not to be seem like a male chauvinist but he wants to protect Amanda. Each time he is trying to convey his concerns, it comes across in the wrong way. It endeared him to me. Here was this big bad guy who is ready to take on the world, but he is trying to be delicate with his words for his woman.

Amanda is my kind of heroine! She was strong, smart, and sexy. Even as a cyborg, Amanda still had feelings of self-doubt which cause her to try even harder to prove herself.

I think it is ultimately her strength and resilience is what attracted Sonny to her.

She was his equal and he could love and respect her.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. There was so much action, the right amount of suspense, a hint of humor, and plenty of romance. I was thoroughly entertained and I think you will feel the same way.
