Pascal’s Cafe and Grill – Greenwood SC

When I want to treat myself or celebrate a special occasion, one of the places I like to go is Pascal’s This restaurant is considered upscale for Greenwood. They serve French-American style cuisine. Reservations are recommended to make sure you get a table in this small restaurant because they tend to get crowded. Some people have told me that they consider Pascal’s to be pricey, but I have been to other upscale restaurants and their prices are about par for what I expect. That being said, do not try to eat here if you are on a budget because plates average prices are probably about $20.

I am not very adventurous when it comes to trying different plates on their menu because I love the pork osso bucco. The meat is so tender that it falls off the bone. The rosemary demi-glace sauce is a wonderful complement to the mashed potatoes. And the asparagus qualifies as my serving of vegetables for the day because it is served al dente without having the life cooked out of it.

I do not know how many pork osso bucco Pascal cooks each night, but I always try to get there early so that I can get my order before they run out for the night. Pork osso bucco is so delicious that even after I am full, I might try to eat a little more. The only thing that keeps me from stuffing myself is the knowledge that I will be able to eat Crème Brulée for dessert.

Pascal’s Crème Brulée rivals Maggianos. I love the textural differences of the crunch of the burnt, slightly bitter caramelized sugar mixed with the soft, sweet, creamy, vanilla custard. It is like velvet in my mouth.

Overall: The service is good. I have never had a problem with any of the waitstaff. The quality of the pork osso bucco and Crème Brulée has always been top notch for me too.

The Mill House

To sum up the Greenwood SC restaurant The Mill House in 3 words: Brick Oven Pizzas

This place has the best pizzas because they cook them in a brick oven. The crust is a little chewy but also has a little crunch.

Pizza prices start at about $8 and toppings are $.85 each. The do have specialty pizzas that usually cost between $9 – 10 and have several toppings. Most of the time, I rather choose my own toppings.

You can choose the type of sauce for the pizza- the most common are the red sauce and the white sauce. I always get the red sauce. I tell them to put heavy sauce because they are light with the sauce usually. In addition to pepperoni, I also like bacon, prosciutto ham and black olives. When the mood is right, I might even order the barbecue chicken pizza.

They have some gourmet topping options too (like smoked salmon) if you are the adventurous type. For me, I don’t like to get too crazy with my topping choices.

For people who like beer, they have an extensive beer selection too. My friends have said that they really good beer choices especially some high gravity beers which seems to be all the rage these days.

Overall, it may seem that there is a lot of hype about this place, but that is only because they are so committed to doing a good job cooking pizzas.

Kickers – Greenwood SC

This is a small restaurant that is known in Greenwood SC for big flavors. There are a lot quirky flavor combinations that look questionable on paper but are delicious in execution. I call them gourmet burgers with international flavor.
My favorite flavor combination is the Caribbean turkey burger which pairs jerk seasoning and pineapple in the ground turkey meat. The burger is moist, savory from the spices, but with a hint of sweetness from the pineapple.
They also serve a pimiento cheeseburger that is DELICIOUS and full of cheese goodness!!!
Various sides include but are not limited to pasta salad or fries. If you do order the onion rings, prepare to share since it is too much for most people.
Each day, they serve different types of soup. The sweet potato soup is very good. The gumbo is a little spicy but delicious. You can always ask for a sample before deciding which one is best. Whether it is a sample, cup or bowl of soup, be careful because the soup temperature will be HOT and could burn your tongue if you eat it too fast.
Kickers is mainly open for lunch. Come early (11.30am) or late (after 1pm) if you do not want to wait for a seat. Since the location is small, it does not take many people to fill up the place.
The service is good. The wait staff was attentive and kept my drink glass full while I was waiting for my food.
Prepare to spend about $10 on lunch. Before you balk at the price, know that it is worth it.

Old Main Catering

One does not expect to find delicious gourmet food from the same group that cooks in the cafeteria of a college. But that is the case at Lander in Greenwood, SC. Old Main Catering provides the food for the university and events around Greenwood. It was so delectable that I decided to take pictures and share with the world. I wish there was a way you could taste the flavor, but you can at least SEE how good it looks.

On the left – Italian Cream Cake decorated with edible flowers – The cake was moist, but not gummy in texture. The cream cheese frosting was not overly sweet but was a perfect complement to the cake. And there were just enough pecans to tie it all together. Very delicious!

On the right – Prosciutto wrapped asparagus, pita chips with hummus, Basil mozzarella tomato salad, and kalamata olives. Saltiness of the prosciutto along with the crunch of the asparagus was on point. Pita and hummus is my new favorite snack. One can never go wrong with basil, mozzarella, and tomatoes. To top it off, the olives had just enough briny flavor.

I really liked Old Main Catering’s tapas offerings and I would suggest them for any catered event.

Peek Intimate Dressing

As I mentioned in a post on my other blog, after I tried the useless genie bra, I got my money back to head over to Peek Intimate. From the first time that I visited this establishment, I knew I was going to love this place. Bras, bras, and more bras. Now, before you think that I am not used to going to stores and seeing pretty bras, get that notion out of your head. In my less endowed days, knew all of Vicky’s secrets. As I grew a more womanly shaped body, their bras were not offered in my size (insert my sad face here).

But here, Megan let me know that she carries lingerie lines that were for bigger bust, full figured women. I LOVE IT!!!  I bought 2 comfortable, cute, sexy that fit me perfectly. No ill fitting genie bra or playtex offered here.

Greenwood SC finally has a lingerie boutique. This place is classy and offers styles that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
