Alien General’s Wife

3heart

Synopsis
Indigo entered her name years ago in to a Draconian mating lottery to be mated with an alien dragon shifter. She was never matched, so she went to college and continued with her life.

Meanwhile a violent alien race called the Mulgor has invaded earth and killed a lot of people in the major US cities. Sadly after slaughtering her family, Indigo received notification that she has been matched with a Draconian mate. Having nothing left to lose, she goes to check in and be matched.

Vlosh is a high-ranking officer in the Draconian military and thinks that being matched with a mate is a waste of time. He has bigger problems, namely dealing with eradicating the Mulgor. However, once his dragon sees Indigo’s picture, there is a countdown to complete the mating or go insane. There are no other options.

Opinion
Once Indigo and Vlosh get together, their story was nice. I felt like Indigo experienced a lot of trauma leading up to their meeting. Afterwards, she seemed to be level-headed and made good sense decisions.

Reading the easy relationship she had with her parents was emotionally awkward considering the fact that I knew from the blurb that they would die soon. I tried to imagine they died painlessly, but doubt that was the case.

Indigo was a strong woman, which was what her husband needed since he was the general. There was a lot of pressure on her to mate because the entire military operation was under his command. If he went crazy, that would have been bad for everyone. When it came down to the actual mating, I did not feel that she felt forced to do something she did not want to do.

I could tell that Vlosh was a no-nonsense type of guy, but had enough wherewithal to concede to his mate when need be. Who cares about aesthetics? Saying that he was blunt would be an understatement. He saw no need to sugarcoat his words, but that did not mean he didn’t care. It is good that Indigo had a strong personality, otherwise I don’t think their relationship would be as successful.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. I liked Indigo and Vlosh individually and as a couple. Vlosh was a really considerate guy, even though he did not really think he had time for a relationship. Indigo had her stuff well enough together to be able to cope with tragedy and be open minded to entertain being an alien’s mate.

Thursday’s Thoughts featuring author @CharlotteEhney #paranormal #urbanfantasy

img_1291

Welcome to TOW bi-monthly feature Thursday’s Thoughts. On the second and fourth Thursday in the month, I share the thoughts of a featured author in the form of answers to questions posed to them.

One of September’s featured authors is Charlotte Ehney.

How long have you been writing?

I have always been an avid reader so I decided to try my hand at writing a mystery novel when I was 12 years old. I didn’t get very far but I had the writing bug and never stopped.

What comes first when you decide to write a story: the characters or the plot?

My stories usually start with a “what if”. I may see a news article or hear about something that sticks in my mind. I will start asking the “what if” questions and a story line starts to form. Then I figure out who is involved in my story.

What does your family think of your writing?

My two published books and many of my stories have a paranormal flair. Even though my family is supportive of my writing, I don’t think my genre appeals to them.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

As I mentioned earlier, I love to read. I have been very fortunate to meet other authors at different events and have a stack of books of their works waiting to be read. I also draw and paint. I enjoy connecting with nature and am lucky to live in an area where I can do a day trip to the mountains or to the beach. The thing I like best is spending time with family and friends.

Who is Charlotte Ehney? She is a South Carolina native. She contributes to Lakelands Parents Magazine. Charlotte’s poems have appeared in the column “Birthing the Writer Mother” on LiteraryMama.com have been displayed at the Greenwood Arts Center. Charlotte is the author of two novels, Blood Adversaries and Family Vows.

Bear meets Girl #netgalley #review

I received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Bear Meets Girl (The Pride Series)

4heart

Synopsis

The New York shifter community is full of wolves, hyenas, lions, tigers, grizzly and polar bears. Lou Crushek (Crush) – polar bear shifter – and Marcella “Bare Knuckles” Malone (Cella) – she-tiger shifter – meet the morning after a party where they had more than their share of jelly shots. They end up having to work together to find who is hunting and killing shifters for sport.

Crush is an introverted cop who hates change.

Cella is a high skilled feline contract killer who has a passion for hockey. Drama seems to follow her wherever she goes. Adding to that, her nickname is “Bare Knuckles” because she has no problem with punching someone in the face, male or female, and usually knocks them out.

Opinion

When I saw this book, it immediately went on my TBR list. I have read werebear (bear shifter) books in the past and thoroughly enjoyed them because I like it when a woman pokes a surly bear. From the synopsis and the cover, it seemed that Crush was as surly as they come. I was excited. I like dour, grumpy heroes who come out of that shell for love. What I was not prepared for was how much I loved Cella’s personality.

Cella is crass, loud, and unapologetically outspoken. From that description alone, you would think that her character would be unlikable. I loved the fact that she was a skilled assassin who used her talents for the good of her people. Plus, she was not arrogant, but still very sure of her abilities on and off the ice.

In the beginning she antagonizes Crush by doing all sorts of outrageous things to get him to react. I knew sooner or later she was going to have to ease up if they were going to get together. Of course, once he agreed to be her “pretend boyfriend”, I knew that they were well on their way to romance town.

What to say about Crush? Let’s just say, “I’m crushing on Crush.”

He is a big hulking polar bear man, described as looking like a meth dealer/possible serial killer. He is as straight as an arrow cop who believes in using the proper channels to achieve justice. He is scary looking and hopes that will encourage people to leave him alone. But when he is thrust into a room with his hockey idols (coincidentally one is Cella’s dad ), we see what a hockey fan boy he is. It was endearing.

Crush knows that he is attracted to Cella.

Her scent made him want “to roll around until he was completely saturated with it.”

However, unlike other shifter books I have read, it is not a we-are-fated-to-be-mates type of scenario. They still have to decide if attraction is enough.

“Crush has no idea what to do with this woman.

He knew what he’d like to do with her…”

Bear Meets Girl was a winner and I am glad I discovered this author. This story has romance, humor, and a touch of suspense. The resolution of the main problem was not resolved to my satisfaction, but it was minor to me with regards to the story line. I was rooting for Cella to have her happy ending and I knew that Crush was the perfect guy for her. Plus, Crush needs a woman like Cella because she keeps him from taking himself too seriously and helps him deal with change in a more productive way. The supporting characters helped to paint a complete picture and, in the end, I wished they were real so I could hang out with them.

Funniest line in the whole book-

“Hey, I haven’t broken a guy’s leg for money- and hockey doesn’t count- since I was sixteen.” – Cella’s dad

Accidental Abduction – Blood, Boobs, and Carnage #Blogfest #bloodboobscarnage

I am participating in  a blogfest called Blood, Boobs, and Carnage

The terms were simple- choose a movie, book, or television show that fits the theme. It can be any genre that fits the bill – fantasy, science fiction, action, adventure, western, thriller, etc.  This Blogfest is hosted by Alex J Cavanaugh andHeather Gardner.

I chose the book Accidental Abduction
3heart

Synopsis
Tren is an alien that thought he was beaming up some fish from earth to sell on the universal market. He didn’t mean to abduct the human female too, but now that he has her, he wonders what to do with her.

Megan was drowning in the ocean after her boyfriend pushed her off a boat. Instead of dying, she is beamed up on to a space ship. While she knows she should be more subdued, she cannot resist being mouthy.

Tren prides himself in staying in control of his emotions and actions, but Megan pushes all his buttons and ignites his baser instincts. When she is kidnapped on purpose, he will stop at nothing to get her back.

Opinion
This book. Where do I even start? I guess I should explain why I chose it for the challenge.

Blood

When Tren decides that he is not going to deny how he feels, his enemies see kidnapping Megan as a way to manipulate him. THAT does not go well for them. He has no mercy when it comes to eliminating his enemies. Funny thing, Megan is gets a guilty thrill on the fact that he killing all these aliens to save her. She is trying to be shocked, but at the same time, she is like

Boobs

It is a romance.
Tren has no nipples!
And he says she is weird for only having two breasts.

Carnage

There is a line of entrails from evil villains that tried to kidnap Megan, but failed miserably. It is the wild, wild west in the universe and no one messes with Tren’s mate and gets away with it. She gets kidnapped twice and both times Tren is like

Overall,  the book made me laugh. Tren was not trying to pick up a human to be his mate, it just happened. Megan was cheeky, brazen, bold, and audacious as ever. Tren tried to intimidate her, but she had nothing to lose. To be fair, he did keep threatening to sell her. She was just calling his bluffs. With all that sexual tension going on, there was only one way it was really going to go.
