Opinion
The story was so basic. Tania has an unprotected sex one night stand with a guy after her boyfriend broke up with her. Of course, she’s going to get pregnant! That’s a common trope among romance novels.

Here’s the twist: she’s pregnant with quadruplets.

Let that be a lesson to anyone having a one night stand.

Good thing he’s a billionaire.

I felt the title was click bait though. Nothing about their relationship or the babies was “forbidden “.

Welcome to TOW bi-monthly feature Thursday’s Thoughts. On the second and fourth Thursday in the month, I share the thoughts of a featured author in the form of answers to questions posed to them.

One of November’s featured authors is Jorja Tabu.

How long have you been writing?

Forever. Seriously. The first book I wrote (and still have) was an epic My Little Ponies fantasy story when I was four years old. I drew each page, all forty of them. The daycare worker that diligently wrote down all of my brilliant thoughts in the little speech bubbles (I guess it was more of a graphic novel?) was named Heather–I am so thankful for all of the kind people that helped me along the way, and she was the first.

Who is the most famous person you ever met?

Doug Wilder, of course! Richmond representing.

What do you consider to be your hidden or uncommon talent?

I love to hula hoop, but I’m not particularly talented; I’m better at cooking, which is much more common.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I am a very family oriented person, and picnics at the beach with my extended family and friends are the absolute best way to spend a day for me. Especially while I hula-hoop badly, and make decent food 😉

Synopsis
Indigo entered her name years ago in to a Draconian mating lottery to be mated with an alien dragon shifter. She was never matched, so she went to college and continued with her life.

Meanwhile a violent alien race called the Mulgor has invaded earth and killed a lot of people in the major US cities. Sadly after slaughtering her family, Indigo received notification that she has been matched with a Draconian mate. Having nothing left to lose, she goes to check in and be matched.

Vlosh is a high-ranking officer in the Draconian military and thinks that being matched with a mate is a waste of time. He has bigger problems, namely dealing with eradicating the Mulgor. However, once his dragon sees Indigo’s picture, there is a countdown to complete the mating or go insane. There are no other options.

Opinion
Once Indigo and Vlosh get together, their story was nice. I felt like Indigo experienced a lot of trauma leading up to their meeting. Afterwards, she seemed to be level-headed and made good sense decisions.

Reading the easy relationship she had with her parents was emotionally awkward considering the fact that I knew from the blurb that they would die soon. I tried to imagine they died painlessly, but doubt that was the case.

Indigo was a strong woman, which was what her husband needed since he was the general. There was a lot of pressure on her to mate because the entire military operation was under his command. If he went crazy, that would have been bad for everyone. When it came down to the actual mating, I did not feel that she felt forced to do something she did not want to do.

I could tell that Vlosh was a no-nonsense type of guy, but had enough wherewithal to concede to his mate when need be. Who cares about aesthetics? Saying that he was blunt would be an understatement. He saw no need to sugarcoat his words, but that did not mean he didn’t care. It is good that Indigo had a strong personality, otherwise I don’t think their relationship would be as successful.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. I liked Indigo and Vlosh individually and as a couple. Vlosh was a really considerate guy, even though he did not really think he had time for a relationship. Indigo had her stuff well enough together to be able to cope with tragedy and be open minded to entertain being an alien’s mate.

Author Spotlight: Terry Bolryder

It is rare that I buy every book from one author. In the case of Terry Bolryder, she has found a formula in her writing that draws me in so much, that I pretty much want everything that she has written.

I have read SEVERAL complete series and box sets from her. From the books I have read, it seems that she writes paranormal books focusing on bear and lion shifters as her main characters.

I discovered Terry Bolryder when I purchased the Polar Heat Boxed Set . I liked her writing style because she has so many different types of plots that are somewhat similar in a way, but still different enough that I am entertained. Her heroes are alpha protectors who will do whatever they have to do in order to be with their mates. The heroines are independent, sassy, and can hold their own against the dominant men who come into their lives.

Another great thing I like about her writing, fated mates does not matter when it comes to race or species. Some stories are BWWM and others are bear-lion or bear-wolf shifter combinations. None of it seems forced. They (usually the guy) recognize who their fated mate is and they do what they have to do in order to ensure the relationship’s success.

Should you buy? I think so! I just went ahead and provided the links for the box sets (where available) because you cannot read just one!

Synopsis

Allison has relationship issues since her dad abandoned her mom when she was a child. She is working at a restaurant when she meets Trevor. He is her best friends’ boyfriend’s friend (not as convoluted as it seems).

Trevor is the alpha were-lion of his pride. From the first moment he met Allison, he decided she was his mate. He cannot understand why she is resisting the idea of them being together.

Opinon

I first mentioned this book in a post last year. I liked the book so much, I thought it deserved its own post. Since this was a short story, I expected the attraction had to move quickly. I also do not mind love-at-first sight in shifter books, since the “fated mates scenario” should mean they are destined to be together forever. However, when introduced to Trevor, I thought he was too intense.

Smelling her neck at the first meeting?

No wonder she was creeped out.

Kudos to the author for making Allison skeptical and difficult. She did not fall into bed just because he said so. Plus, there was an instance where she said yes but then changed her mind and said no. With so many books out there that blur the lines of consent, it is good to see the alpha male respect the woman’s right to say no, even if she had been agreeing previously.

Trevor was a serious alpha but met his match when it came to Allison. Once they got together and were on the same page relationship wise, they were heating up the sheets something serious.

Should you buy? Yes. If the book had been longer, I probably would have given an extra heart. I think it was a great short shifter were-lion story. There is a little conflict to move the story along. There was not a lot of romance in the beginning because Trevor did not understand the concept at first. He comes around and they have a happy ending.

I am looking forward to reading more from Alyse Zaftig!
