Billionaire Unbound:: The Billionaire’s Obsession ~ Chloe (Volume 8)

Synopsis
Chloe just got out of a bad relationship and thinks that some distance from her ex will help. So she agrees to work on Gabe’s farm as his veterinarian.
Gabe has crushed/lusted/loved Chloe for a long time. He thinks she is off limits as the sister of his best friend. But after 1 kiss, all bets are off. He is not trying to break up her relationship, but after finding out she is unattached, he will do his best to help her to see that he is the man for her.
Opinion
This is another story in the Billionaire Obsession series by J.S Scott. I think that as this series continues, I have been able to see the progress in her writing style and plot themes. She has been able to keep the stories from becoming stale. It is not like I am reading the same plot over and over. There are times where elements are the same, but it is not so repetitive that I am bored with the story.

In this story, the heaviest theme was the abuse of Chloe’s previous relationship. It was at times brutal to read but it made me want Chloe to find happiness even more. Plus, it goes to show that money and a good family cannot always shield a person from being in an abusive relationship.
I sympathized with Chloe because many of the reasons why she stayed parallel to real life victims of abuse. I could understand how Chloe’s family felt once they found out what had been happening because they did not see the signs. The Coulter family is so tight-knit, that I could imagine the emotional reactions when they realized they were unable to shield their sister from being in a painful relationship.
But this book is not all tears and sadness, because Gabe was more than willing to be the man and protector that Chloe needed in her life. With that, Gabe secured his spot on my Billionaire book boyfriend list.

“Hey,” I squealed, waving my hand in the air. I was so happy my brother would finally get to meet Jack.
He walked toward me with a smile, but when he caught sight of Jack, that smile turned into an all-out heated glare. “What the f**k are you doing here?” he growled, quickening his pace.
Jack froze and gripped my arm, grumbling, “Shit,” before pulling me around to face him. “Bristol, listen to me. This isn’t how I wanted you to find out.”
Everything was happening so fast, I didn’t know what to think. “Find out what?” I asked desperately.
Before he could reply, Ryan ripped me out of Jack’s hold and pushed him away. Jaw tense, Jack was ready to fight, but I couldn’t let that happen. “Ryan, stop!” I shouted, digging my nails in his shoulder.
Jerking his head around, he glared straight at me. “Do you even know who this c********er is? He’s playing you to get back at me.”
I threw my hands in the air. “What the hell are you talking about? How do you even know him?”
Jack’s eyes never left mine, the anguish on his face making me sicker by the second. I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like what came out of Ryan’s mouth. He scoffed incredulously and spat at Jack. “He’s Jaxon f***ing Reed, the asshole on the team I’ve been telling you about. Don’t tell me you didn’t know?”
Jack stepped forward, but then again, that wasn’t his name. It was Jaxon Reed.

Synopsis
Aegis has been looking for Opal for years and finally finds her. To his surprise, she was being held captive by the dark oracle, the same woman who Aegis has been loosely aligned with. He does not care if he has to take on the world if it means he will have his one true mate for eternity.
Even though the Opal dragon has been imprisoned for hundreds of years and been the victim of many injustices, she still has this overly optimistic view of people. While she knows that Aegis is most likely her one and true mate, she does not think they will be happy together since he has a decidedly less optimistic view of people and their intentions. She ran from him once before and she will run again if she thinks it would be best for her sanity.
Opinion
Aegis and Opal were a classic story of opposites attract. She is an eternal optimist and he is ever the pessimist.
In the series, Aegis has always been the villain or more amoral than not. At times, we saw a bit of a selfless side. I am so glad he has his own book. Here, we get the full picture that helps us to understand why he is the way he is.
For somebody who was bullied for so long, he decided once he had power that he never would be in a situation where he would be the victim. When they were children, it seemed that Opal would never fight for herself. Aegis felt that he had to protect her because he always said that they were fated mates.

I do not totally agree with the reasons Opal gave for leaving Aegis, but I can understand how she was not happy. She wants to give everyone the benefit of the doubt even when they are obviously taking advantage of her. In the case of Aegis, he has put up a protective wall to prevent himself from getting hurt as he did as a child.
As adults, Opal realizes that she still has the same feelings for Aegis as she did when they were younger. As she’s trying to navigate this new world, she’s also trying to figure out if they really can be happy together. Aegis, on the other hand, realizes that without Opal, he has no reason for existing.
Aegis is also finding out what it is like to have friends, people that have your back no matter what. Up until now, this concept was foreign to him because everybody that he knew wanted something from him.
I am glad they have their happy ending. I was rooting for Aegis more than Opal. I know it was in her nature to let people take advantage of her, but it was infuriating to say the least. In the end, I like that she finally was able to understand Aegis’ point of view.

Synopsis
Ian Dare is at his father’s birthday party when he meets Riley. The attraction is instant but he thinks she is dating his half-brother Alex and therefore is off-limits. Once it’s established that they are just friends, Ian makes his move. But as they get closer, it is evident that Riley’s emotional baggage could threaten the relationship permanently.
Opinion
This is the first story of the Miami Dare family series. I read book 6 in the series Dare to Take, and I was hooked on the series. Carly Phillips did not disappoint with this book either.
Ian is a hot, hunky dominant male who makes it clear what he wants. At the same time, he has a soft protective side. Who doesn’t like that in a man?

I like Riley because she was strong and loyal to her friends. Well she may not have always made the right choices, she tried to do what she thought was best.
Both Ian and Riley have their own insecurities and hangups because of their backgrounds, but they were at least open to evolving to make the relationship work.
“You make me want”, she whispered, “you make me believe.”
