Photo Blogging #Challenge May 2015 theme: #Spring #photoblog

May 2015

May’s theme for the photo blogging challenge hosted by http://hoohaablog.com was Spring.

I did a lot in the month of May. So again, the hardest part about this was deciding which pictures to use. Enjoy! I welcome your comments 🙂

Every May, there is a golf tournament that is held in our community. It is part of the Symentra tour and the ladies participate to be able to get a card on the LPGA tour. I volunteer for help because it is a fun event. Plus, a portion of the proceeds go to local non-profits that promote women’s health issues. I worked at the scoring tent and was able to meet the golfers as they were finishing their round. Since they were finished for the day, they were more relaxed and talked more freely.

We went to Belize for a family reunion. My grandmother was born in Belize City and wanted us to get to know our extended family still living there. It was an awesome trip (future post about that). This is a view at the pool at our hotel Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza. Great hotel! I enjoyed taking in some sun. When it got too hot, I would dip into the pool.  🙂

My aunt and I went to Caye Caulker to go to the beach. This is a picture of sand on one of the tables that was at a restaurant. The table was in the water with an umbrella. We had our drinks while enjoying being in the water at the same time.  I really liked the color contrast of the sand and the table, so I took the picture.

On Memorial day weekend, the hubs and I went camping. This trip was planned since January so that we could get the spot we wanted at the campground. We went fishing. This is the first time for me in the last 20 years. I could this little bugger. He ate my worm but was too small to keep. We threw him back.

On the same camping trip, we went for a nature hike. This was one of the views we saw. The lake has only been in existence for about 40 years when the dam was built. The dead trees shown were there before the area was flooded and turned into a lake. I did not know that. Hubs explained the history. Random thought: I love the sky in this picture.

This is a picture of our glowing campfire coals. I am mesmerized by hot coals because you can see the heat emanating from them. Plus, I want to touch even though I know it would burn my skin off.

Photo Blogging #Challenge April 2015 theme: #Family #friends #photoblog

April 2015

April’s theme for the photo blogging challenge hosted by http://hoohaablog.com was Friends and Family.

The hardest part about this was deciding which pictures to use. I love my friends and family. We are always doing things and taking pictures. I wanted to have fun and be different, so I did not go for the usual poses for the most part.

I attended a religous congregational gathering/party and the reason was “just because”. We ate, laughed, and enjoyed each other company. The children ran around outside, yelling and screaming, joyfully being kids. One of the friends in our congregation is a baker and made the cake in the picture. He decorated it to delight of the children. The inside was a 4-layered tres leches (three milks cake). I forgot to take a picture of the inside, but trust me it was good. So delish!

Our wedding anniversary is in April. We celebrated four years. Hubby’s gift to me was this pendant from a jeweler we know. I have always wanted an initials pendant and this year I got one. I got hubby a tablet. He was just as pleased with his gift 🙂

On our anniversary weekend, we went to Mayfield Dairy in Georgia. They are known for their yellow milk jugs (supposed to prevent vitamin loss in the milk). We took a tour and saw how milk is pasteurized, how chocolate milk is made, and how the jugs are filled and packaged to deliver to the stores. Afterwards, we had some delicious Mayfield ice cream. There were so many flavors to choose from. I chose butter pecan. I recommend going for a tour. It is inexpensive and interesting. If you have children, they will enjoy seeing how milk gets from the cow to the store.

My Nana wanted to go shopping for some new shoes. To put this into perspective, she is 92 years old. While she is quite mobile, she is legally blind. She lost most of her vision late in life and is not happy about it. The grumpiness manifests itself in many different ways, most often through her wisecracks. It makes every shopping trip so much fun. Plus, we entertain anyone within hearing distance. After trying on 15 pairs of shoes, she decided to buy these. She likes these because they do not look like  “old lady shoes”. I told her that she is at the age that she could wear old lady shoes. She disagreed.

My work family had a team participating in the local Dancing with the Stars, a dance competition to benefit the non-profit organization Beyond Abuse (beyondabuse.info). I was on the team of dancers that enthusiastically performed our hearts out last Saturday night. Our team won the People Choice award and the award for most money raised by a team. The dance competition was enjoyable, but it was also fun to practice with work colleagues over the last few months to get ready for the event. We were happy to play a part in assisting the agency raise the funds they need to operate. I did not take a picture of our group but I was able to get a picture of some of the decor.

Photo Blogging Challenge March 2015 theme: TWO #photoblog

March’s theme for the photo blogging challenge hosted by http://hoohaablog.com was the number 2 in celebration that it has been two years since he started this challenge.

When I took this picture we two of our peach trees had blossoms. I had to take a close up shot of it. I love close up shots of flowers.

My uncle and I went to see the 2pm matinée show of the play Willy Wonka at the local community theatre. We had to take an “us-eee”. Just the two of us. It was a fun time. Of course, my uncle (unprompted by me) did his usual deuces. Peace to everyone!

I went to a conference and I limited myself at lunch to two of these red velvet whoopie pies. Old Main Catering has done it again! The red velvet cake was so delicious with a hint of chocolate. The cream cheese frosting filling was divine! Creamy. Smooth. Sweet but not overly sweet. I wish I had taken the whole tray. My waistline is happy I only ate two though.

I went to an oyster roast hosted by the rotary club. I took a picture of these two oysters because these were the last two before we received our next bucket. This is one event where my hubby wants to attend. He is slim and trim but can eat double his weight in oysters if you let him. Oyster knife in one hand and hot sauce in the other.

I went bowling with friends and these are the two balls that I used. Still did not break 100. The highest score I had was 82. The lowest was 48. Both divisible by 2 🙂 Funny side note: we were on lane 22.

We went to a bacon festival (YES that is a thing http://www.americalovesbacon.com) in Columbia SC. We knew one of the vendors (Debbie from Divine Smoke for Carolina Pride) and she let us try these Bacon-Oreo cream cheese concoction that her daughter made (looks like a truffle but she called it a cookie). In the center of each is a piece of bacon. In the milk chocolate on top is bits of crunchy bacon. A very rich, decadent dessert. Delicious to the max! I told my friend that her daughter has talent. I hope she remembers me when her daughter is a fancy pastry chef somewhere!

Feb 2015 Photo blogging challenge: Winter

The theme for February from http://hoohaablog.com/ was winter.

I thought our winter was mild so I did not expect to have pictures of ICE! The weather in February was as bi-polar as it could be. One day it was 10 degrees. Three days later it was 60 degrees. Talk about confusing.

Every February for the last few years, I have participated in a 5k race called Run Your Ice Off. After months of inactivity, I shook off the icicles and ran. This year, I finished just under 48 minutes. Considering I did not train, I think that is pretty good.

There was an ice storm the second week of February. Trees and power lines were covered in ice. Our power was out for about 36 hours. It was like camping. Haha. Hubby heated up water for our baths and used the gas grill to cook our dinner. He is so good. Thankfully, we did not have to endure too much time without power. Thanks Duke Energy!

Hubby came out of photography retirement to take pictures at a wedding. Only a friend would be able to coax him into dusting off the lens. While he was working, I captured a few shots with my iphone. This is a shot of the bridal bouquet.

The day of the wedding, I had to show what the temperature was. Keep in mind earlier in the week it was 10 degrees!!!!

The last day of the month was the day of the midwinter ball. This is an elegant black tie affair and fundraiser for a local non-profit. The who’s-who of Greenwood attend in their glamorous attire. I was able to attend because my job had tickets. The hubby did not go because he does not like to dress up. So my plus one was my friend Dawn. In keeping with the theme, there was Indian cuisine and a special Bollywood style dance. It was a fun night with dancing into the wee hours.

Photo challenge- Games

I decided to participate in a photo challenge. The next step was to look for a theme. The theme for January was “Games”. I knew I would have a difficult time taking pictures relating to the theme. I am not usually very athletic and, in January, I prefer to be inside. Instead of passing on the challenge, I made up my mind that this is what challenges are all about. I hoped this theme, while outside of my comfort zone, would help spur creativity.

All pictures were taken with my iPhone.

Picture 1
I decided to do a challenge that starts on Feb 1. It is a exercise and diet challenge from Guru of Abs. I have this listed under the “Games” theme because I think that getting my body in better shape will help me play games this spring and summer.

Picture 2
I had a Scentsy party (product party with concept similar to Tupperware sold by my friend Brittney). We were going to play games at the party. I was the hostess giving the party. This picture is right before it started when I had all the samplers organized. The Scentsy product is all about good smelling fragrances for the home, car, and body. They mainly sell wickless candles that are placed in a warmer. The melted wax diffuses the scent in the air without an open flame. I like them because they are good quality. Hubby likes them because there are no open flames (the firefighter in him will not let me burn candles). My favorite scent is Honeymoon Hideaway.

Hubby built a grill. The ribs that he cooked later were award winning to me. I wish he would enter them into a competition (hence the inclusion in the “Games” category).

Picture 4
My tennis shoes are Saucony brand. I love this brand because all the running shoes that I have bought from this brand have been very comfortable. This shot reflects “Games” because it is getting warm enough for me to shake off the icicles and begin training again for playing tennis in the spring. I am ready. Now that I know my size, I can buy Saucony Women’s Running Shoes on Amazon.

IMG_7259Picture 5
I went ice skating with my friend. While this is not a game, I decided to include any physical activity in my games category. We went skating in Greenville SC. I recommend it because it is a fun activity, especially if you have children. It costs about $10 for skate time and skate rentals. Check the website for skate times because they only have so many sessions each day.
