Opinion
Since these were all novella length (meaning: short stories), I did not bother separating out the reviews.

There seems to be a glut of romances between step-siblings out these days. When you buy one, all of a sudden, Amazon thinks that is your thing and suggests a 100 other books they think you might like too.

I may read “step-sibling romances”, but I am very sensitive to any ick factor. If the two grew up as siblings, then that is a major ICK. I don’t want to read about two people who are trying to justify their relationship by constantly saying “We grew up together but we are not related by blood!”

Another ICK factor for me is the age of the heroine. If they are the same age, that is one thing. But if the heroine is barely 18 and the hero is 25+, I think he is too old at that stage in her life. Basically, that is an ick factor in any romance for me.

I know 18-year olds think that they are well equipped to make life decisions, but when it comes to love and relationships, the majority of them need to hold off before promising their everlasting love. If she was 30 and he was 40, it would be different.

Her Stepbrother’s Secret Desire got one heart from me because of the overwhelming icky-ness of their relationship.

  1. It seems they had been lusting after each other for a while.
  2. She is just out of high school!
  3. It seems they are going to play house while she is in college but I doubt they will last much longer than that.

Out of the three, Seeking Prince Charming was the cutest and no ick because they met through a dating website. Since, their parents changed spouses like other people changed shoes, they did not have time to form any kind of bond as step-siblings. They almost let their parents’ drama deny them of their own happiness, but I was glad it worked out in the end.

Out of the three, I liked the parents in Her Stepbrother, Her Hero the best. When it looked like Anthony was going to put the moves on Gabriella, his dad put the ax on that. Let the Marines make a man out him and teach him some self-control. Plus, the intervening five years gave them both time to grow up. The story itself did not have a lot of depth, but focused on the fact that they still were attracted to each other.

Depends. If step-sibling romances are your thing, BUY because you will enjoy this box set. If you want a romance without the borderline kink, BORROW for Seeking Prince Charming since it fits the bill as a sweet romance.

Opinion
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thought this was going to be a book about Dragon shifter hockey players. The name of the hockey team is Ice Dragons. The first few chapters had me confused.

I wondered when they going to begin shifting. Was Kat a dragon too? The fact that I thought this was a shifter romance is my fault because I did not read the blurb. As soon as I saw dragons in the blurb, I decided this was a book I wanted to read (I have been reading a lot dragon shifter romances lately). It did not help that on the cover there’s a picture of a dragon. Sometimes it is best not to judge a book by its cover.

Once I realize they were all 100% human, I started to get into the story. I had to reread some of the chapters because I was so focused on trying to figure out when they were going to turn into dragons that I wasn’t paying as much attention to the plot details.

Hockey politics play heavily in this book. There is a lot of detail regarding the ins and outs of being on a hockey team and their hard work to make it to the playoffs. That helped strengthen the plot line and provide understanding of the character dynamics.

Now but me talk about the characters:
I did not know what to make of Kat. She is fiercely independent and does not want any help because she think she can take care of herself. I guess it is because all the men in her life try to take over and tell her what to do and where to work. I felt like she should at least realize that what they say has some merit instead of completely discounting anything because she was determined to do her own thing.

I did agree with her decision to keep her relationship with Ryan a secret from her brother until they determined that they were actually going to be serious with each other.

This book got many hearts as it did because of Ryan. He was rough and tough on the outside, but tender and sweet on the inside. He had been in love with Kat for years but never thought he was good enough. I like that he decided to bite the bullet and go after what he wanted. He let her set the pace and didn’t pressure her to commit until she was ready.

BUY. Despite my initial confusion, I did enjoy this book. If you like sport romances and the friends to lovers trope, you will love this book.

Synopsis
Indigo entered her name years ago in to a Draconian mating lottery to be mated with an alien dragon shifter. She was never matched, so she went to college and continued with her life.

Meanwhile a violent alien race called the Mulgor has invaded earth and killed a lot of people in the major US cities. Sadly after slaughtering her family, Indigo received notification that she has been matched with a Draconian mate. Having nothing left to lose, she goes to check in and be matched.

Vlosh is a high-ranking officer in the Draconian military and thinks that being matched with a mate is a waste of time. He has bigger problems, namely dealing with eradicating the Mulgor. However, once his dragon sees Indigo’s picture, there is a countdown to complete the mating or go insane. There are no other options.

Opinion
Once Indigo and Vlosh get together, their story was nice. I felt like Indigo experienced a lot of trauma leading up to their meeting. Afterwards, she seemed to be level-headed and made good sense decisions.

Reading the easy relationship she had with her parents was emotionally awkward considering the fact that I knew from the blurb that they would die soon. I tried to imagine they died painlessly, but doubt that was the case.

Indigo was a strong woman, which was what her husband needed since he was the general. There was a lot of pressure on her to mate because the entire military operation was under his command. If he went crazy, that would have been bad for everyone. When it came down to the actual mating, I did not feel that she felt forced to do something she did not want to do.

I could tell that Vlosh was a no-nonsense type of guy, but had enough wherewithal to concede to his mate when need be. Who cares about aesthetics? Saying that he was blunt would be an understatement. He saw no need to sugarcoat his words, but that did not mean he didn’t care. It is good that Indigo had a strong personality, otherwise I don’t think their relationship would be as successful.

TOW Final Word: Buy, Borrow, Pass?
BUY. I liked Indigo and Vlosh individually and as a couple. Vlosh was a really considerate guy, even though he did not really think he had time for a relationship. Indigo had her stuff well enough together to be able to cope with tragedy and be open minded to entertain being an alien’s mate.

Synopsis
Sonny and Amanda meet at a bar and have a one night stand. Little do they know, they are working together the next day. They are cyborgs assigned to a top secret assignment that will be very dangerous and possibly turn into a suicide mission.

Opinion
First of all, I love cyborg romances! The author created likable characters with Sonny and Amanda. I was on pins and needles trying to figure out how they would get out of danger. I felt invested in their success. There cannot be a HEA if they are both dead, so I knew they would make it out alive.

But HOW?!?!?!

There were so many plot twists and turns that I could not put my Kindle down.

I like how Sonny tries not to be seem like a male chauvinist but he wants to protect Amanda. Each time he is trying to convey his concerns, it comes across in the wrong way. It endeared him to me. Here was this big bad guy who is ready to take on the world, but he is trying to be delicate with his words for his woman.

Amanda is my kind of heroine! She was strong, smart, and sexy. Even as a cyborg, Amanda still had feelings of self-doubt which cause her to try even harder to prove herself.

I think it is ultimately her strength and resilience is what attracted Sonny to her.

She was his equal and he could love and respect her.

BUY. There was so much action, the right amount of suspense, a hint of humor, and plenty of romance. I was thoroughly entertained and I think you will feel the same way.

Synopsis

Due to bureaucracy governing the city where Ben lives, he decides to venture into the Wastelands to acquire much needed medicine for his friend. Things do not go as planned and he is soon stranded after a crash. Celine comes to his rescue and returns him to the city.

Even though their meeting was brief, each made a lasting impression on the other person and that draws them together despite the odds.

Opinion
FYI: I received this book at no charge in exchange for my honest review

When I first read the title (I did not see the cover), I thought this was going to be a M/M romance. And I almost passed over it (MM romances are not my thing). I am glad that I read the blurb though. After reading what the book was about, I was hooked because there are not many stories out there where the heroine is the CYBORG.

Celine seemed to be delicate but strong at the same time. She was a natural explorer which is one of the main reasons why I think her contact with Ben impacted her so much. She wanted to learn more about him and his world, but her father kept trying to hold her back due to prejudices and misunderstandings.

Ben was a real maverick to me. He was more in tuned with the people of their city than his father was. At least he used his power and influence to try to make a difference in the lives of their subjects.

The more I thought about the story, I think it has some aspects that are similar to the Little Mermaid (the Disney version).

However, the author weaves an interesting story in a way that I felt engaged as the reader. The romance in this book was present but not graphic. The author said “This book contains NO harsh language, explicit violence, or graphic romance scenes”. Even though this adult fiction, it is fine for younger readers if parents are worried about that.

BUY. This is a sweet romance. I loved the story and the way that it ended.
